There WAS a record produced, and I even think it was an LP, of the 470. I believe the 470 RR club issued it. I did not purchase it, when I saw it for sale some 12 years ago on a popular and formely great auction website, but wish I had.

This could also possibly explain why the bowl on the Durbin whistle is a dead ringer for a B&M, yet lacks the B&M name in the side of the valve (as the other B&M whistle I pictured above has). Does the Conway whistle have any markings in the bowl? Hard to tell from the pic.

The Conway whistle does in fact say B&M on it. I don't have a picture of that, but I do remember that from when we had it in on loan last winter at the Portland Narrow Gauge Museum.

Thank you to Richard Glueck and New England Steam Corporation for posting the radio broadcast of 470's last run. If you skip the video to 7:25, you'll hear the engineer blow 470's whistle. Sounds identical to the Durbin Rocket's as mentioned in this post but I will let you all be the judge.

Credit where it's due. The recording was unearthed by NESCO Board Secretary Peter Violette. Glad you enjoyed the recording, but by all means, don't let this satisfy your taste to hear 470 run again. Please visit our website and join online or mail your membership to:

When the locomotive moves this year, it should be quite a show. But remember, restoration and preservation is an act on strength and will. If we preservationists don't do it, who will?
