While thumbing through the latest edition of Mechanical Engineering magazine, the monthly published by the ASME, I came across a full page ad announcing, "The Nation's first and only Bachelor of Science in rail transportation engineering is at Penn State Altoona." Could be a very good place for a person to land if they have an interest in perusing mechanical. electrical or computer engineering and a passion for railroading. Had a chance to lecture there a couple of weeks ago, interesting program. Some feel the premier program at the moment is at UIUC. http://railtec.illinois.edu/. There are several other programs about as well.

The Technical University of Denmark offers an extensive education program in railway transport, as well as transport in general.

Our graduate program is taught in English, and our undergraduate program is taught in Danish. We offer a broad based program in all aspects of railways, but our research focus is in management, scheduling, and mathematical optimization. We are affiliated with other Scandinavian universities and our students can obtain further specialization with semester exchange. In particular, students seeking more emphasis on civil engineering can study at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, and KTH, Stockholm, Sweden is very strong in mechanical engineering, rolling stock, and signal engineering.

Our program is accessible to North American students, and our tuition fees for non-EU citizens are competitive with "out of state" American university tuition.

Our program enjoys very strong connections to the Danish railway industry, and strong "hands on" research opportunities.
