There are a lot of good things going on at the W&W's shops. I organize the night crew which works Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5-10pm. We have a full-time CMO working during the day with volunteers helping. Some of the work going on is repainting the ceiling of our open-air car, reworking step boxes, rebuilding the power reverse for No. 58, painting the cab roof and tender deck of No. 98, annual inspection of No. 98, 1472 day inspection of No. 58, and new tires for No. 58. We have marvelous volunteers with many skills. No. 98 is our former Mississippi Central 4-4-0 built by ALCO in 1909 and No. 58 is our 1907 Baldwin 0-6-0 that was built for the Atlanta, Birmingham, and Atlantic. Also, out 1940 B&O SW-1 No. 8408 is offsite being rebuilt by McHugh Locomotive & Crane, more on that soon.

It is a true honor and privilege to be able to work with so many awesome people at the Wilmington and Western. Our little organization is 55 years in the making and 49 running trains. The thing that gives me the most satisfaction is being part of passing along what I learned from the men who work in the steam era to the next generation. My greatest hope is that it all keeps going long after I'm gone.

One more photo of our crew doing a dye-penetrant inspection on No. 98's drawbar. We're pretty proud of our guys. We logged 360 man-hours of evening shift in the shop during July.
