Bell I.D.?

Don't quote me on it, but I believe it looks at least similar to Reading #1187's original bell. Has the gentleman checked for a number impressed into the bell somewhere? That would be the first thing to look for.

I mentioned a locomotive number impressed into the bell. On our ND&W diesel that had a bell added to it off of an Illinois Central steam locomotive, I wondered if the particular ICRR engine could be determined. As you can see by the photo I took today (a bit of chalk added to help with the visual), it's off of a Pacific. This number was up at the top of the bell, but I have heard that some railroads added them inside.
