Hi all!

To keep stories straight from the source I am creating this thread to post updates. This first post will be updated with major news or changes.

5002 was built in 1942 by Porter. It is the 3rd s100 built. As far as we are aware it was assigned to the Philly navy yard with no number. It would spend the duration of the war there with the Vulcan that became Queen Anne 3. After this it worked at EJ Lavino till they dieselized. It then went to Tombstone Junction in Kentucky. Then to KRM and as of Wednesday, me in Boyertown.

I created a group called Project 02 that will work toward restoring this war horse.

If anyone has any changes they would like to add to the history, please do!

In case you didn't see, you also made the less known Boyertown Bulletin. I'd give you the link but their website is a little wacky and hard to navigate.

One slight correction. Navy Yard stablemate and former Wawa & Concordville, Wilmington and Western, Queen Annes RR No. 3 is a Vulcan.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

So, what kind of brake stand did it have?

If like the other stateside S100s I have encountered, it would have had a straight #6 automatic, no distributing valve. The independent was TOTALLY independent and didn't come on with the automatic. The model of the actual independent valve escapes me. The automatic was in the "traditional" position at the right corner of the backhead, and the independent was mounted on the cab wall in front of the engineer.

It's a bird - no, it's a plane - it's....

Ok - you'll have to watch the video below to find out. The video that I'm linking to below was taken on the day #5002 was unloaded onto her home state rails for the first time in nearly 50 years. It includes a rare viewpoint from the engine itself as the crane lifts and spins the engine into place, and then rolls on Pennsylvania rails down towards a grade crossing in town. It includes narration from me (for the first time) - and hopefully some of you can spread the video around to interested parties and/or donate to the cause at the GoFundMe link featured in the video. I'll also add the GoFundMe link here below as well. Enjoy!
