Another Dick Wallin Ektachrome duplicate purchased from John Benson, of a GN F7A-GP30-F Unit sandwich. The #316C was built in April 1952, serial #16082, was later BN #654, and was retired and sold for scrap in October 1974 to Naparano Iron & Metal Co. The location and date are unknown.

A Kodachrome original slide purchased from John Benson, of UP Plan #4025Q 8S-buffet lounge solarium observation Harvard Club, in Omaha, on September 9th, 1959. The Harvard Club was built in 1914 in Lot #4292 as the Plan #2521A 10S-lounge observation Pleasant Hill, 1 of 20 such cars built in that Lot; 10 for AT&SF and 10 for MP, including the Pleasant Hill. Between 1933 and 1936, 9 of these cars were rebuilt to Plan #4025 (various suffixes); the Plesant Hill was the last of these, rebuilt in November 1936 to Plan #4025D, and changed to Plan #4025Q in February 1944. At the divestiture, UP acquired 2 of the rebuilt cars from this Lot; the other was Plan #4025D/Q Yale Club, rebuilt in September 1936 from the Casa Blanca (AT&SF car). Both the Harvard Club and Yale Club were withdrawn from lease in October 1958 and scrapped circa 1962.

Another Ektachrome duplicate, acquired from Hampton Wayt, from the collection of Howard J. Wayt, date unknown.

NP steam boiler-equipped F7A #6510A was built in September 1949 in order #E1214, serial #8734. It was retired in March 1967 and traded in to EMD (on what order?). It's most likely that the #6510A is seen here as the lead engine on the eastbound North Coast Limited, waiting to depart King Street Station south towards Auburn and the left turn east to Stampede Pass. Note on the far right the heavyweight car (with end arched windows, so likely NP) on a long-gone track, as well as the GN caboose on the northbound (timetable eastbound) train entering the tunnel underneath Downtown (on main track #2).

Another Kodachrome slide, taken by Dick Kuelbs in Fort Worth on September 15th, 1963, of SAL Plan #4090 8S-1DR-3DB sleeper #1232 Chimes Tower, which was rebuilt in September 1939 from Plan #3584 10S-2DR sleeper Point Buchon, which was built in June 1925 in Lot #4846. 2 Tower-series cars from Lot #4846 are known to be extant: Breslin Tower ("Surviving Pullman" thread line item #64, ex-Point Bank) is part of the collection of the RY Museum of New England, and the Canonbury Tower (line item #65, ex-Point Brown) is owned by John Birmingham.

Does anyone know anything about these new scanners that allow your I-phone/smartphone to scan 35 mm negatives and slides? I wonder what the quality is like?

Another Buck Price slide taken at King Street in March 1974, of ex-CB&Q Twin Cities Zephyr dome parlor observation #360 Silver View, as Amtrak #9300. The Silver View was built in 1947 by Budd in Lot #9652-015, along with #361 Silver Vista, with 31 parlor chairs and a 5 seat drawing room, this was changed to 34 lounge seats by Amtrak. These 2 cars were planned to be renumbered as BN #1190-#1191, but those numbers were not applied. The #9300 was retired and sold in 1976 to Delaware Otsego, first as Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley (CACV) #5 Great Sacandaga and changed to NYS&W #505 in 1984. Phil Dohmen lists that it was sold to CSX in 1999, then resold to Mike Abernethy in September 2000 and leased to the Boone & Scenic Valley.

As for the 2 TCZ dome chairs posted before this slide, the histories as follows:

Both were built in 1947 by Budd in Lot #9646-015, 2 of 6 such cars (4725#-#4730). These were planned to be renumbered as BN #5480-#5485, but only #4729 Silver Scene was, to BN #5484. These cars were sold to Amtrak as #9540-#9545. The #4727/#9542 Silver Stream was retired at an unknown date and stored in Los Angeles, where it was burned by vandals in 1983 (perhaps August, which is the retirement date listed by Dohmen), with a hole cut in the roof by responding firefighters; it was subsequently sold in March 1985 to D.A. Brown, resold in 1987 to David Duncan, then resold again (date not listed) to Art Cushman and Gene Turnage (d.b.a. Southern Junction Co.) for planned use on the Broadway Dinner Train, but the car was not placed in service and Cushman sold the car to ITAX in 1997; it was resold in 2000 to Mike Abernethy, but is listed as still stored at ITAX/Gateway. Meanwhile, the #4728/#9543 Silver Wave was wrecked in October 1975 and subsequently sold in February 1976 to Roger McRee. Due to unpaid storage fees, SP had the car scrapped in 1978.

Here's another H.E. "Buck" Price Kodachrome original slide, taken in Seattle in February 1972, of NP 70 seat RDC-2 #B-30. #B-30 was ordered and built in January 1955 in Lot #9682-154, and was sold to Amtrak in 1973 as #30. The #B-30 was stored at King Street Station (over on one of the old REA tracks) during this time with 69 seat RDC-2 #B-31, seen on the far left. #B-31 was built in May 1950 as WP #375 in Lot #9682-044, and was sold (along with #376) to NP in 1962 (the #376 became #B-32); these 2 RDC's were also sold to Amtrak in 1973, as #31-#32. In my notes, I have the #30 as stored at Beech Grove in 1982, and Warner lists a retirement date of 10/1983. I have the #31 as retired in 1987!, and Warner lists a retirement date of 8/1975 (was this RDC stored at Beech Grove for those 12 years?). The #32 was damaged by fire sometime in 1979 and was subsequently sold to MTA as a parts source, presumably in 4/1980 (retirement date listed by Warner).

In looking for additional disposition info for these 3 RDC's, I found a slide taken by Kim Piersol of the #B-31 in Reading, PA, in November 1972: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=301548. Kim states that the #B-31 was sold to Amtrak in August 1972, not 1973, and that it was wrecked somewhere in Illinois (exact location not listed) in September 1974. Does anyone have more info on this wreck, or any disposition info for the #B-30? Thanks in advance!

I recently acquired this original Kodachrome slide taken by an unknown photographer in Seattle, sometime during High Summer in 1972, presumably August by the dried out grass and the processing date on the mount.

A trio of former Burlington Geeps (GP30 #2220, GP35's #2536 and #2545) lead a manifest southbound on Main 1 of the Seattle Sub, having just passed King Street Station, which is out of frame to the left. Seen above and behind the string of boxcars is Union Station, which had closed the previous year with the start of Amtrak. At King Street, this train changed from running timetable westbound on the Scenic Sub to running timetable southbound on the Seattle Sub. Behind the ex-CB&Q power is SSW GP35 #6511 and an ex-SP&S Alco C425. The #2220 was ex-CB&Q #943, built in April or May 1962 in Order #7621, serial #27154, frame #7621-4, and was retired and sold for scrap in December 1981 to General Metals. The #2536 was ex-CB&Q #990, built in April 1964 in Order #7719, serial #28985, frame #7719-5, was retired in April 1986, and scrapped in August 1986. The #2545 was ex-CB&Q #999, built in December 1964 in Order #7720, serial #28990, frame #7720-4, rebuilt in September 1989 to GP39E #2929, now BNSF #2929. The #6511 was ex-#771, built in December 1964 in Order #5680, serial #29737, frame #5680-8, and was later sold to OmniTrax as OMLX #6511 (one source lists that it was sold to On-Track RY Services, Ltd. [OTRX]). It was later rebuilt to a GP38-3 as OMLX #2250, and as of 2010 was leased to the Kettle Falls International RY.

Another slide:

Built in May 1929 by National Steel Car/CP as CP 2 6-seat smoking rooms-buffet-17 seat lounge-8 seat solarium observation River Clare (total of 15 cars in this Lot), reconfigured in November 1943 to 4 double bedroom-1 compartment (4DB-1C) sleeper buffet lounge solarium observation Cape Clare (the lounge and solarium seating was still the same, but with a writing desk added next to the buffet), renamed in August 1945 to Cape Hurd, reassigned and modified in January 1963 as business car #14 (2nd) (1 seat in the solarium removed, lounge seats reduced to 9 with addition of 6 seat dining table, buffet changed to kitchen, bedrooms listed as single occupancy, compartment changed from 2 facing section-sized bench seats to 1 bed/long bench seat and chair, common restroom next to vestibule changed to shower), acquired at unknown date by the British Columbia Chapter NRHS as the Craigflower, now carries the original name of River Clare, and is listed as a "parlor". Besides the Cape Hurd, CP reassigned/modified 7 other cars from this series as business cars. Of the other 7, 2 were reassigned to the MofW department (these 2 had been rebuilt to café parlors in 1941) and 5 were scrapped. This original Kodachrome slide of the Craigflower was taken by an unknown photographer in June 1982 in Tacoma, WA. By that time, the car was already owned by the B.C. Chapter, but painted for the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad.

I have found the month taken and location info for the following slide (see end of post).

GN FA1 #276B (probably with #276A), which according to the GNRHS-NPRHA Archives, was assigned to the Kettle Falls branch, so this photo was likely taken in Spokane. The slide was a duplicate made by R.R. Wallin; I don't know if he was the photographer or a later owner of the original.

Does anybody have the order, frame, and serial numbers, as well as the build dates for the #276A-#276B? Thanks in advance!

I noticed another listing on Ebay of the same slide, with the seller including the following info:

Offered for bid is a duplicate 35mm color slide from the Blackhawk Films 'Those Famous Alco Diesels---PA's FA's and DL-108's---Western and Canadian Roads' collection. The caption states: 'Great Northern FA-1 No. 276B/A at Vancouver, Washington. June 1965'.

Specifically, this slide was taken on June 25th, 1965.

Another slide:

This is an original Kodachrome, taken by Dick Kuelbs in Dallas on Sunday, December 27th, 1964, of Pullman-owned Plan #3973A 10S-1DR-1C sleeper Blue Bird Lake, 1 of 41 such cars built in 1930 in Lot #6338; cars were outshopped between March and May. 37 cars were built for the North Coast Limited (with Chief-series names) and 4 cars, including the Blue Bird Lake, were built for the CB&Q (with Lake-series names). At the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture, NP acquired 25 of their cars, and of the other 12, 2 each were acquired by L&N and C&EI, 3 were acquired by IC, and 5 were retained by Pullman. Of the 4 CB&Q cars, the White Bear Lake had been streamlined in August 1940 for the Texas Zephyr, changed to Plan #3973D, and renamed Lariat Range. At the divestiture, this car was sold to the FW&D, and is listed as withheld from lease in June 1961. The other 3 Burlington cars were also retained by Pullman, including Blue Bird Lake. Of the 8 retained cars, 3 were retired in 1961 (1 was wrecked on a troop train extra east of Miles City, MT, on the MILW on October 25th [the train hit a gravel truck at a grade crossing], 1 was sold for scrap to Sable in January, and 1 was sold to the US government in December), 2 were retired in March 1962 and sold for scrap to Midwest Steel, 2 were retired in 1966 and sold for scrap to Hyman-Michaels (1 each in March and April), and lastly, the Blue Bird Lake was retired in March 1970, and is listed simply as "sold for scrap". Of these 8 cars, at least 3 received the Two-Tone Gray paint scheme; the Blue Bird Lake was painted as such in September 1956. Checking the 1961 list of cars in government storage, 10 of the Lot #6338 cars are listed: both of the C&EI cars, 1 of the IC cars, 1 of the L&N cars, 4 of the NP cars, and 2 of the Pullman-retained cars (both Chief-series cars), which were the 2 sold for scrap to Midwest Steel.

Another slide (a mystery, in fact!):

This is an Ektachrome duplicate of ACL Plan #4084A 6S-6DB sleeper Poplar Terrace, which was built in 1925 by Pullman in Lot #4844 as the Plan #3410 12S-1DR sleeper McCoysburg, 1 of 70 such cars built in that Lot for the general service pool; cars were outshopped between January and March. In June 1939, 3 cars from this Lot, including the McCoysburg, were rebuilt to Plan #4084A with Poplar-series names. 2 of these 3 were acquired by ACL at the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture: the Poplar Village and the Poplar Terrace, which were leased to Pullman for operation. These 2 cars later received ACL's Purple & Silver paint scheme: the Poplar Village in January 1958 and the Poplar Terrace in December 1957. Interestingly, the 3rd car rebuilt to Plan #4084A in June 1939, the Poplar Trail, had earlier been lettered for service on the ACL between July 1941 and October 1942, but was not sold to ACL at the divestiture, instead being retained by Pullman after 12/31/1948 until sold to Reuben Darby's Darby Wood Products in June 1967; I don't have any further info on this car's disposition. (After the stint in ACL service, the Poplar Trail had been lettered/painted for service on the C&EI in April 1949, which was changed to L&N lettering/paint in March 1951, and lasted as such until December 1953.) Of the 2 sold to ACL, the Poplar Village was withdrawn from Pullman lease in July 1963 and the Poplar Terrace was withdrawn from Pullman lease in February 1964. Both are listed by Wayner as subsequently scrapped.

There is no information written on the mount, so date, location, and photographer are unknown. If anyone has another duplicate of this slide with info written on the mount, or otherwise has info on the date, location, or the photographer, this would be very helpful indeed!
