That's sad. Right at Christmas, not to mention that's way too young.
Condolences for his family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of going home. One day each of us will "Catch the Westbound" and we'll meet again.

My condolences to Dave's family and friends. The steam world has lost a passionate railroader.

Without knowing the man, he loved steam and 46 is way too young. We share your sadness.

Dave was a dear friend and will be very missed. Every day on the engine with him was a great day. I will never get on an engine again without thinking of him and remembering all the good times. I know all of us at Strasburg will reflect back on our times with Dave and smile. Dave may be gone but he will never be forgotten! One of the best engineers I ever worked with and a better man you will not find. Until we see each other again, Rest In Peace my friend!!!

Many times while visiting Strasburg I would see Dave, sometimes we'd exchange a few brief words, other times just wave from a distance. He would never shy away from my camera; rather stay in the moment for me to freeze in time.

Dave, thank you for everything you did for us railfans, we lived through you.

Very sad; great tribute. My new answer about this subject, when asked, will now be: "Just sand the flues with me!"
