Ok, so here's a new question before Christmas. Anyone have any info on Atlas 50tonners? Looking for build info, buyers, etc. I think they were a fairly rare beast, so not sure what is out there. I haven't been able to find very much on them, so curious to know what's out there.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas.

Just googled "Atlas Car and Manufacturing Company", and found quite-a-bit
of info, URLs to research, etc. Including photos of 50 Ton locomotives.

Hi Ken while I myself don't know much history regarding Atlas's locomotive venture I do know that the Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad has one at their Perry St Station. It was built originally in 1946 and was last used at a local steel mill in Titusville,PA. They currently have it up as a static display with some cars representing a photo freight. I can try to reach out to them following the holidays if you'd like and see what they know about Atlas company production. Otherwise have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year,

Cameron

Another Atlas 50-tonner is preserved on static display in a shopping center south of Wilmington's Amtrak station, a property developed in former industrial waterfront land. I suspect moderator Tommy Gears may have more on both Atlas and that specific loco:

Port of Wilmington Atlas 50T, nee USN65-00392, exxx Equip of America 519, exx Diamond State Tank Car, Wilmington, ex Trans Car, Wilmington, built 1941 c/n 2255(?)

One was used by a local steel mill, Atlas Steel in Welland. It unfortunately was scrapped in the 80's. We have discovered its twin not far from us. I don't believe however that it has any attachment to Niagara, and therefore may not be brought in as part of our collection. It is in very rough shape, but may be fairly complete. I hope to stop and have a look at it next week to see just how rough it is. It's good to know where some of them still exist, as this may be the only one in Canada. It would be really nice to find a build list of them to see if it can be identified. All I know is it apparently started off in Baltimore before going to Montreal, and ending up where it is now.
