The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) certainly isn't.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) isn't either (they formerly called themselves the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) until the World Wildlife Fund successfully sued them over the conflict in abbreviations).

Yep I got it. It was cheap, and even if the plow doesn't work out there is a good car under that blade somewhere that could be repurposed. It weighs 12,000 lbs.

Yeah, but from this video I shot in September, it can't keep up with a steam locomotive hauling cars!

Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway Museum in Alna, Maine http://www.wwfry.org
2 foot narrow gauge railway

Equipment includes:
2 restored steam locomotive
1 Model T Railbus (Replica)
1 New steam locomotive soon to be started
1 Gas-Electric Locomotive
1 Diesel Electric Locomotive
many restored local railcars
2.5 miles and growing track
and most important a very active membership, it is staggering what they get done on a regular basis.

---------------------------------
On a slightly different tack, wonder if 2 things could happen (other then me winning the lotto and funding it).
1. Steamtown transfers LIRR Rotary to Strasburg
2. Strasburg restores LIRR Rotary

Imagine the future scene, after Steamtown finishes restoring LIRR 39 (per the agreement with Railroad Museum of LI), during another foot plus snow storm, the 2 units do a circuit of plowing both railroads. After all IIRC she is the only USA standard gauge steam rotary left.

There are a few standard gauge steam rotary snow plows around. There is one of the more modern one's at the Illinois Railway Museum, Union Pacific number 900075. The sister to that one still exists though I can not remember where. There are a couple other Union Pacific out there. Are there two Southern Pacific steam rotary's in serves?

Concerning the WW&F Railway Museum's internal combustion locomotives, No 51 is a gas-mechanical Brookville, while No. 52 is diesel-mechanical by Plymouth.

Black River & Western 400, a.k.a LV 112 was out too, clearing the snow. We only got about 24 or 25 inches.

Why you ask.........we ran a charter for the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce celebrating their 100th annervasary to the day, Tuesday, January 26th.

This 77 year old diesel with its original prime mover did just fine with the powder and plowed grade crossings. We had a lot of fun as the plow extra rolled along.

Also, check out why it was a special night for Black River & Western at https://www.facebook.com/BlackRiverRailroad/

There is a UP steam plow at the museum in Ogden, UT, if I recall. Nevada Northern's steam rotary is indoors in Ely. That one has a belpair boiler, as well.

Here's Nevada Northern Rotary B back in 2013:

Kelly is correct. The plow is stored indoors and has been cosmetically rehabbed in the last several years. Its steam engine is not operable, but you'd never know it from the photo.

BTW, I believe that the young gentleman in the pilot house now works at the Strasburg Rail Road!

Since we are counting extant steam rotaries, the oldest one in existence, NP #2, is securely displayed at the railroad museum in Duluth, MN in the depot train shed. It was a display piece for a number of years at the now defunct Cadillac & Lake City Rwy in Michigan prior to being moved to Duluth.

Here is a rather frightening photo of the LIRR rotary taken in Patchogue, NY in 1921. I would not want to be that close!

The OSL 762 is out of service due to a broken main steam manifold. It has not operated for a while, so it would have to be gone over pretty carefully and the boiler recertified by the State of Wisconsin, but there is nothing to prevent it from being repaired and being used. Would have been nice to have a few years ago when we had much snow and big drifts on the line.

You would have to run backwards to the interchange, since it connects towards the West.

NP rotary #10 is also still around at Northwest Railway Museum, though they are landlocked.
