Reportedly Silver Planet was destroyed by fire in Mexico sometime during 2015.

This is a public Yahoo group, so there "should" be no trouble accessing the information. However, with the way Yahoo's development people have been coding the /neo/ system ... who knows?

I only saw a picture of the Silver Planet with a burned-out dome section. I don't know if any of the other cars were also damaged.

Thanks, Topfuel. I wonder how much structural damage was done to the car. If it got hot enough, and the dome frames started to melt...well, let's not dwell on that, shall we?

Hopefully in the future more info on the extent of the damage will become available.

Google Street View link from December 2015 showing what's left of the Silver Creek International train stored in the street in San Luis Potosi, MX. Silver Planet was stored with these cars a few years ago, but is no longer visible in the street view. The other cars are heavily vandalized. The ex-NYC observation car is gone too.

Gonna resurrect this thread (it's been 2 years) and see if anyone has any new information about the ex-WP dome car "Silver Planet" and the ex-NYC tall-window observation car shown in these Google Street View pictures from 2014 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. They were originally part of the Silver Creek International tour train, but appeared to have been abandoned later with the rest of the consist. They appear in the street view photos from 2014, but not 2015, although the rest of the consist is there. Silver Planet appears to have been torched, and is rumored to have been scrapped, but the ex-NYC obs appears to be in pretty good condition. If anyone's interested, they are on Arenal street in San Luis Potosi.

It obviously was open to vandals because a vandal not smart enough to think through how it would be viewed wrote inside the dome. In the notes commenters as recently as five months ago say they are not sure where it is now, curious why they would cut only one and not the others unless as you suggested it was gutted in a fire.

To clarify, both the Silver Planet and the ex-NYC observation car (I can't verify it's original number) are gone, as is the section of track they were sitting on. There are still 5 other cars, at least in the 2015 street view, in the same place, all in similar or worse condition. There is no way anything could be moved by rail, as the rails are paved over in several places. I'd like to believe someone realized their significance and removed them with a flatbed and cranes, but that's unlikely. There is a small railroad museum in the old station in San Luis Potosi with a steam locomotive and a few other passenger cars, but Google Street View doesn't show the missing cars on the property.

It has a facebook page and a website, but don't bother looking for roster-type photos (or a roster), the website has a photo archive ("galeria") but I gave up trying to load it. Overall I was reminded of that scene in the original Rollerball where James Caan was trying to find out information from the computer in the library:

Trip advisor has more photos, but a weird emphasis on the outside-braced wood boxcar/ converted coach (plus a nice steamer). I looked through them but I don't think either of the cars you mentioned are there:

The museum seems to serve a different purpose than a US UK or European railroad museum.
