I thought the proper name for a RR enthusiast's home had the word 'asylum' in the description...... :-)

Very interesting, thank you for the link.

But I have a question: Is 0814 a real D&RGW caboose number? I can't find any reference to it, and all the Rio Grande narrow gauge cabooses I'm aware of are numbered in the 0500 series. What's the real history of that Colorado Springs caboose?

0814 is indeed a real D&RGW STANDARD GAUGE caboose (though it looks narrow gauge in the photos it is an early standard gauge car) The Rio Grande had 100 such cars, 0800 - 0899, built in 1887 - 89.

0825 survives in Westcliffe Colorado

Jason, thank you for the clarification. I had assumed from the design that the caboose was narrow gauge.

The key spotting feature is likely the TWO step tender type steps at the corners, if I recall, the NG cars were low enough to only need a single step. Wonder if they were any wider than the NG cars?

I am bit intrigued by what appears to be a B&O wood hack in Delaware. Great looking car.

File comment: Not exactly Steinheimer quality, but the scene is totally changed now and the locomotive was scrapped about 50 years ago. My mother took this with her folding Kodak 620 around 1950, after diesels had replaced the PE freight motors.

When it comes to Residences for RR Enthusiasts, I nominate the house I grew up in. Unfortunately, the railway was abandoned when I was 11 years old, a psychological trauma that I have spent over 60 years recovering from. The railway I'm referring to is the Pacific Electric Monrovia-Glendora Line, which went by our home on 5th Ave. in Monrovia. We were close enough to the tracks for the south side of our driveway to be an easement from the PE.

And that has apparently escaped the documentation of the ARCHES "Captive Cabeese" project.....

Tom? Any number or further info?

I'm pretty certain that the caboose numbered C213 on the property in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin is not actually an Elgin, Joliet & Eastern caboose. Maybe DM&IR? Or.....?

Captive Cabeese lists this as DM&IR C22, built 1918, originally painted as a fake Ahnapee & Western caboose.
