Well that only deepens the mystery, maybe we have the years wrong. Is there a complete list on the web somewhere or is this from your personal collection.

So where is this one now anyway? It isn't in Newport according to my sources...

I have a paper copy of the Plymouth list and Bob Lehmuth gave me a digital copy. Your guess is as good as mine as to where the Old Colony & Newport Plymouth is.

Joy... So short of scouring the old roadbeds on the north end of the island for signs of it, we got nothing

Stewartstown Railroad Company in Stewartstown, York County, Pennsylvania has a Plymouth with the original LeRoi engine in it, 8 cylinder. In fine operating condition and used regularly..........we've had it for many years (since the 1960's, I think) and it has been very reliable.
It matches the photo of the SMS loco on the original post very closely.........

I would like to thank John T for the information he was able to provide us regarding our locomotive. We now know for certain that it was first assigned to Pratt Army Airfield, Pratt, Kansas and its Transportation Corp number. Pratt Airfiield was one of many B-29 bases here in Kansas. It only lasted till the war was over but played a big role in getting the B-29's ready to serve in the war. This engine is still in original configuration. It is painted blue which was done when it went to the Navel Air Station at Hutchinson, Kansas. We are currently doing a valve job on the heads due to wear and tear and broken valve springs. We will be returning this locomotive to its Army Transportation Corp black with white lettering as it would have looked at the end of the war.
