Charlie,

It does remind me a lot of the "Mardi Gras", which is now owned by Ed Ellis. This car is a lightweight, and "Mardi Gras" was a rebuilt heavyweight, but the decor and configurations are very similar. The Chapter used to own two Southern heavyweights like the other car shown also. They were the 1204 and 1205, which were based in Roanoke in the 1950's and 1960's as reserve equipment for the N&W/Southern run through trains. Ed Ellis now owns one of them also, and I believe the other one is now at the Lancaster & Chester at their now closed passenger car facility. Wouldn't mind having one of them back, it would fit in well with our current VMT operations......

That may be one of the nicest pre-war Pullman bodies that I've seen lately, although I'm hearing good things about the "General Beuregard" (in private ownership at TNVR) of late.

On a related note, Iowa Pacific-SLRG acquired the other 1942 Panama Limited 3DB-1C-1DR-club lounge, PS-16 General Jackson in 2012.

The General Jackson was formerly located in Abita Springs, LA, along the ex-GM&O Shore Line District. See here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1708304 (Michael Palmieri photo)

In 2012-2013, SLRG also acquired four of the ex-NYC 4DB-4C-2DR sleepers that were sold to IC in November 1958:

PS-44 Greenville (Lot #6617, Plan #4069E, 10/1940, ex-NYC #10000 Imperial Chariot) as SLRG #9117

PS-45 Grenada (Lot #6617, Plan #4069E, 10/1940, ex-NYC #10015 Imperial Crown) as SLRG #9118

PS-46 Galena (Lot #6540, Plan #4069B, 5/1938, ex-NYC #10033 Brooklyn Bridge, nee-Imperial House) as SLRG #9120

PS-47 Gilman (Lot #6540, Plan #4069B, 5/1938, ex-NYC #10032 Eads Bridge, nee-Imperial Highlands) as SLRG #9119

For information... The Bamboo Grove ( and I was told the Southern coach ) were both owned by the New Orleans Chapter NRHS at one point. ( they also owned the Mardi Gras among other cars )....

The detirmination that the steel cars were problematic due to rotted structure, lead them to sell off these cars.

I don't recall the number of the Southern coach, however it is believed to have been part of the New Orleans Chapter NRHS collection at one time

Attached is a picture of the Bamboo Grove in Tampa

Dean, group,

Yes that's what I had in my notes. SOU 1003 and IC 3300 were NONRHS and were sold to William O. Savage in Tampa Florida. On some level, I can understand the desire to go out of the mild steel car business and into the stainless steel car business -- I own both. However, a well cared for steel car isn't so bad that a total sell off is necessarily warranted. I always have thought that the work IC did on their modernized heavyweights was outstanding -- certainly among the best,if not the very best. That makes me wonder why NONRHS would sell off the Mardi Gras if not for a "stainless agenda".

Thanks ETA for the identification of SOU 1003 and Dean for more information on Bamboo Grove!

Regarding the #3300, #3305, and other IC cars:

Christopher Palmieri photographed the #3305 Mardi Gras under Iowa Pacific ownership, with fresh IC Chocolate & Orange, on the Arizona Eastern in March 2011:

http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2466558

In the caption, he states:

Christopher Palmieri wrote:
The 3305 was purchased by Louis Saia of Houma, Louisiana; while sister car 3306 ended up in excursion service in Mexico. Mr. Saia, the owner of Saia Trucking, also purchased CITY OF MIAMI observation car 3300 and home-made streamline diner 4109. He planned on using the cars as a camp, but this never happened; and he donated them to the NRHS-New Orleans Chapter in late 1971. The car was sold to the NRHS-Roanoke Chapter in March 1978, where it was repainted Norfolk & Western Tuscan red and regained it its original name MARDI GRAS.

Did the New Orleans Chapter sell the #3300 to Bill Savage at the same time as the sale of #3305 to the Roanoke Chapter?

Assuming the New Orleans Chapter also acquired #4109 from Mr. Saia, was the #4109 also sold circa 1978? The #4109 ended up on the Carolina Southern, and was acquired by Iowa Pacific along with 4-4-2 sleeper Greenville.

Does anyone recall who owned and operated the #3306 Audubon Park in Mexico? The #3306 was later used as a hunting cabin in Texas, and was also acquired by Iowa Pacific: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35391

Now that the moderators of this forum have done the correct thing and taken my copyrighted photos out of the thread, I will jump into this and answer a few questions.

I took the photos of the interior of the Bamboo Grove. It took effort, but I contacted the condo board and made arrangements to be met and let inside. The one gentleman in the photos is part of the condo board.

I modeled the whole train and did a scratch build of the interior of this car. Those efforts can be seen in the 2 part MRH magazine article of Jul/Aug 2013. The issues are available for free at the website: http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/

1. The car has 2 holes cut into the side - 1 forward of and 1 behind the bar.
2. The bar is the original one on the car (see the article linked for more info on that). The rest is furniture that was moved in.
3. Some leakage of the current exterior of the car has occurred, that is the current concern for repair and upkeep.
4. The condo association is trying to get it set up and registered and has hopes for more restoration. The current exterior paint job is part of that ongoing project. They spent the extra money and repainted with real railroad paint, instead of the crappy green house paint that is still on the southern coach. I saw some photos of the Bamboo Grove in that condition. Yuck.

Check out the article for a complete tour of the car.

I don't think so...

A shot of SLRG 9120 was taken of the car passing through Pocatello, Idaho, yesterday (April 20th, 2016) and the car is clearly ex-Union Pacific...

Anyone know where this car may be heading?

I don't know, but I'd say it's a pretty good chance it's heading to Alamosa. It is the ex-UP 4-4-2 Imperial Rock.

So that would make the car ex-Empire Builder Private Cars 906213, exx-UP 906213 (Sept. 2004), exxx-UP Imperial Rock (Jan 1946), nee-PULL Imperial Rock (Mar 1942).

Thanks so much Topfuel... it is appreciated!!!
