The California State Department of Parks and Recreation is opening a self-assessment test to create a list of eligible candidates for the positon of Railroad Restoration Specialist at the California State Railroad Museum and/or Railtown 1897 State Historic Park.

The application process opens on Monday, May 9th at 8 a.m. PDT and closes Wednesday, May 25th.

Completed applications must be submitted in person or postmarked no later than Wednesday, May 25th.

The examination will consist of a self-assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills and abilities as related to the restoration and maintenance of steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, air brake maintenance, metal working/woodworking skills, etc.

Look under the heading “Jobs” and/or “Examination announcements.”

Be sure to follow all directions carefully and remember to print out each page of the exam as you complete it. All of the pages must be mailed in or delivered in person to the address listed on the site.

We are asking as many people as possible to apply and take the exam. After the exams are ranked, a list will be created for possible future Railroad Restoration Specialist positions.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation encourages all interested individuals to apply for this exciting and dynamic position.

Please go to the sites listed in the original post and follow the process listed therein. For, in addition to taking the exam, you will need to download, fill out, and print the application. An exam submitted without an application will NOT be accepted.

Remember, you have until Wednesday, the 25th.
