You're kidding, right Les? The "whatever these things are" are called stamps, and are still available from McMaster Carr, among other places.

Believe it or not, everybody doesn't know everything! In this case, I guess I am the only one in the world that didn't know what these were called. You have certainly enlightened me. And I greatly appreciate it.

"Topic deviation" is the wrong term! Everything we determine about this bell will help SOMEONE! It is, however, pretty obvious that this is NOT the original bell for the Goodman No. 9. I am sure that Lima would have marked the bell since the manufacturers marked most other parts of their locomotives with the loco's road number.

Can't say about Lima, but when I marked the original bell still on Soo Line 2442 displayed in Marshfield, WI, the only number on the bell was the Alco order number the locomotive was built under.
