In response to internal throttles and styles, the two locomotives at Promontory, UT were fitted with reproduction Baldwin throttles in 2015 based off the patterns made and used on the Kloke locomotives. In all cases the AI's, Chief Inspectors and FRA have handled each situation in a different way. All correct and all safe, just noting that all installed, inspected and handled differently.

Kindly,

John, you bring up a good point, ultimately what goes into service as new, used or combination thereof is at the discretion of the regulatory entity, commonly referred to as the Jurisdiction, the boiler is subject to. If you build a new ASME Code stamped boiler and plan to use your existing drypipe and dome throttle then the boiler would be documented on ASME Form PL-1 as a partial because the boiler was not manufactured with all the components in the Code Jurisdictional Limits. In this scenario, there will never be a Master Data Report which may or may not be an issue for the Jurisdiction. I believe Matt Austin eluded to this point in his second post.

Thank you, Paul.

You and so many others, including myself have tried so hard to help our industry understand this one thing;

(As I step up on my 3 foot tall soap box)

Always, always, always work with your jurisdiction BEFORE you do anything. You are never out a dime to make sure you cross every i and dot every t before you cut a single piece, make a pattern or send something to test.

Once a jurisdiction stands behind you....run. Not a second before.

ASME Section IV Heating Boilers allows boilers to be made of cast iron for a maximum pressure of 15 psi.

ASME Section I Power Boilers allows:
1. Gray cast iron components of SA-278 for pressures up to 250 psi.
2. Nodular cast iron components of SA-395 for pressures up to 350 psi.
