That's heartbreaking! Bad enough they are decaying, but the graffiti scumbags are always around like cockroaches.
Word from when they took the 2926 to Cleburne is that they really weren't that interested in restoring and just put a high price on it to shut everybody up.
Whatever, it's done and nothing anyone can do about it. The engines still have good bones and are restorable, but unless they leave there this is their future.

I'm sure it's just a typo, but #2925 is the engine in Sacramento. #2926 is under restoration in Albuquerque. Moving, repainting, and displaying #2925 and #5021 is LONG overdue!

First thing to do, IMMEDIATELY, is to paint over the graffiti, or it will spread around old town in a hurry. The scum that does this considers it "territorial marking" so you don't want ANY around that might encourage "retaliation graffiti."
Doesn't matter if the paint matches or anything, just cover it up!
Some please get the word to whomever can instigate this.

Just wanted to say thanks for the great photos of the move, especially the last one with the two grand ol' ladies alongside the grand ol' Delta King! And welcome to RYPN!

Sounds like all there doing is moving them from one place of rusting and rotting to another to do the same ,and their solution is to put a fresh coat of paint on them? Meanwhile the spray paint thugs and meth head metal thief scum can continue to further destroy them

This is great news. CSRM is one of the most impressive in the country. I passed these locomotives last summer when riding the museum steam train... it was pretty sad to see them in that condition. I'm really glad they are taking steps to restore them. This museum does a fantastic job with all their displays. I'm sure they will do a great job with these as well.

SF Boy,
Their new location, while not an inside location (which would be much more desirable) is about 80% better than the old location. One downside though, is that they are much more accessible and noticeable now. This is offset by the larger amount of security that exists around Old Sacramento.

Thought I would let everyone know that the new location for the Santa Fe locomotives is 1000x better than where they were before. yes they will be out in the open and as a result more visible but this location is very well lit, has people passing by almost non-stop and is directly across from the park rangers office. This location is part of there regular patrol area as well as the Sacramento PD since the river bike trail passes through this area. This in it's self should help protect the ladies from those that have evil desires. Hope this helps ease some of your concerns.

I was browsing around google trying to find more info on these locomotives and found this thread! What a great resource! I had seen these locomotives multiple times back in maybe 2008 everytime I passed over highway 80. Everytime I passed by I always told myself I had to take my bike and just go down there to check them out as it has always hit a curious spot in me to find out more. Thanks to the info on this thread!

I visited some friends in the the sac area last week and I was hoping to take a walk down the river to see these locomotives but to my surprise as the docent had said, these were moved into the heart of old sac and very assessable! Truly is a sight being able to stand next to these monsters.

Not sure if any work has been done to them since other than lots of the graffiti were removed

Nothing else has been done to the Santa Fe's unless you count the several days of good hard rains that we have had recently, give them a good rinsing. If you plan on checking them out you should know that the California State Railroad Museum excursion train runs on the tracks next to them on Saturdays & Sundays, so please use caution.

I understand that the political winds at the CSRRM have shifted such that the move of these locomotives has been possible and an improvement of their appearance is forthcoming. A big tip of the Santa Fe hat should go out to the CSRRM Chief Mechanical Officer Al Dipaolo who I understand has spearheaded this effort.

The California State Railroad Museum has finally got around to painting AT&SF 2925 & 5021. And I must say they look simply maavvveeelleess! I have tried to attach several photos of the ladies but for some reason I am unable to, Sorry! I have posted them on my facebook page, feel free to view them there.
