Try getting a copy of the reprint of the ICS book entitled "MINING HAULAGE"--The Classic 1907 Mining Engineering Text.

I checked their website and they also publish the C. S. Card Mine Haulage and Handling Equipment Catalog.

A couple of other thoughts...

Railroad Museum of PA - They have a-coal goodies in their archives and an archivist who is into mine history. The Vulcan collection may be worth checking, as they built a ton of mine cars.

Lackawanna Mine Tour - they have a half dozen or so cars outside and prime for measuring, including one of the unique Glen Alden cars. Of course, #9 and Pioneer Tunnel both have cars to measure, too.

I think the state may also have some of the LC&N archives. Rebuilding one of their iron cars would be awesome!

Another book to consider is "Mine Plant" put out by The American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers. I borrowed a copy through interlibrary loan. The one I borrowed was quite fragile, so if you borrow a copy, note its condition. It is chock full of drawings.

I also heard that one of the last remaining shaft headframes has been dismantled and taken to Pioneer Tunnel in Ashland, PA. If it is there, here is something you could measure while it is laying on the ground.

At the #9 Coal Mine Museum in Lansford, PA, there are photo books you can page through of LC&N company photos which I found utterly fascinating which I have not seen anywhere else. The museum has all sorts of mining "junque" on display. Inside the mine at the head of the shaft is the original car transfer table (non-operating, rusted in place) which really screams to be modeled. I also heard that there are several of their unique metal mine cars back in the mine beyond the mine tour.

On the square in Lansford also was a wooden mine car on display. To my eyes, it was not of the type used in this area but in my opinion came from the Huber in Ashley. There is a reconstructed mine car in the middle of Summit Hill which is quite accurate except for the journals and wheels which look like the Huber variety. Some of the statements in this paragraph are opinion and if incorrect, I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Also available are the two volumes of Morning Sun's "Anthracite Railroads", which has chapters on narrow gauge mining railroads. Volume 2 has several of my photos.

The Anthracite Railroads Historical Society has 15 photos of mine steam lokie scenes which still make me salivate. I remember passing some of these scenes when we were visiting relatives in the area. Now you wouldn't even know there were narrow gauge railroads in these scenes:
