One of two remaining original Oregon Electric Railway electric locomotives, OERR #21, a 60 ton GE, is available due to space constraints.

If the OERM were able to acquire this unit it would be their only actual piece from the original OERR, despite their name, they have four Portland trolleys plus quite a few trolleys from Sydney, Brussels, San Fransisco, etc. I believe there is an original Oregon Electric RS-1 still around somewhere in its later SP&S paint. I live about 50 miles from the OERM, I'm not associated with them but I think this loco would really help narrow their mission.

Fraser Valley made this known quite some time ago. They are only asking what they have into the locomotive. I assume you have already donated as much cash as you can to this project and are asking others to do the same on behalf of the Oregon Electric Railway Museum.

I am just going by what they say: "While this is a great opportunity, it was unforeseen that this vintage locomotive would ever be able to leave Canada and therefore no budget for this project was established by the Board. Further, due to the tight timeline, few applicable grant funds are available."

And no, I am neither associated with nor acting on behalf of either museum, I am just an Oregon Electric fan who wishes that a single piece of original OE equipment was in Oregon. Which as of now there isn't.

Sounds like a "NO" from the bod charged with operating the museum. They must know more about their condition than an outsider. I'm not sure why this is being brought to the attention of readers here........ I wish I could save it but it doesn't fit into our mission but if it is scrapped I'd be interested in the trucks, controls and air stuff.

Okay PMC, I just donated $100 towards the save the OERR #21 fund. I chalenge you and everyone else to do the same.

I edited the original, I don't think it is fair to fund raise here (too much other stuff needs help) and didn't intend it for that purpose, but I can see now how it was taken that way. Never post when you have been drinking coffee all day.

If this is the loco I am thinking of, there is not very much of OE left in it. It was rebuilt with Canadian Westinghouse equipment. All the GE equipment is gone. Of the two locos, at least one, if not both, had the cab cut down. Before you jump, take a good hard look at it.

The other locomotives in their collection are mining engines with low roofs so this one should fit right in. I wish them the best of luck.

I just got back from a visit to BC, and one of my "must see" spots was the Fraser Valley operation at Cloverdale. I had a chance to look at the ex-Oregon Electric freight motor, and not only does it have a Westinghouse controller, it has only one, rather than the typical dual-control setup in motors of this type. One might say it's the opposite of a Pacific Electric 1619 class unit (such as the 1624 at Orange Empire) which has the outward appearance of a Baldwin-Westinghouse, but has GE motors and control system.
