Maybe this is part of future phase 2, but I am surprised you didn't put a second wall set 180 degrees out from the one you did for 2 reasons

Unless they were going to put a track on the opposite side, there would be no need for a massive retaining wall, and the pit rail there could be laid right on the ground. Lots of branchline, shortline, and narrow gauge turntables were like that, with partial pits and short retaining walls- and many didn't have beautiful, massive concrete structures to support them.

Perhaps one of the WW&F boys will chime in with their plans for a pit rail on the opposite side, if used.

I don't believe they're putting a full circle of rail in since this style of turntable is easily balanced with its center ring rail and wheels. No fear of losing balance when they're beyond the end of the pit rail.

There are no plans for any tracks or a ring rail on the opposite side of the turntable from the concrete work. The way the pit area is graded the bearing wheels at the end of the turntable will be floating just above ground level.

More progress pictures from the last 10 days. We have bolted most of the turntable bridge together. The bridge is being built upside down. After all the work on the bottom of the bridge is complete the bridge will be turned over on the cribbing. Once the bridge is turned over we will install the queen posts, truss rods, rail support stringers and the rail.

Main beams going together.

Rail bent for the ring rail on the underside of the turntable. The rails have to be trimmed to length and bolted to the turntable.

Queen posts.

Machine work on the female side of the center pin is finished.

Zack has been threading steel rod for the center bearing assembly and truss rods.

Axle ends threaded for the center bearing.

Two thirds of the center bearing ring rail was installed on the bottom of the turntable deck today.

Fred bringing a section of ring rail over to the table.

Phil drilling pilot holes for lag bolts.

The rail on the left still has to cut and fitted.

Overall view. The sets of oak blocks at the end of the turntable are the axle supports for the wheels at the ends of the turntable.

Really great to see.

Now, please explain how you are able to post many multiple pics; this site usually limits photo posting to 3 images.

Thanks,

Howard P.

I'm not attaching my pics to rypn, my pictures are hosted on photobucket. When I put up post on rypn with pictures I'm just copying the photobucket links into my post.

Jason's pictures of the center bearing assembly. The last plan I heard was to crane the turntable onto the center bearing tomorrow. Then the queen post assemblies, truss rods, rail stringers and rail need to be installed on the table during the weekend. The first test spin with a locomotive is scheduled for Monday.

Congratulations. It is amazing that this project has been done in such a short time frame. I was there in early August for the first time and was very impressed with the experience.
