I noticed the boiler and firebox, great work indeed....a credit to the company who built it.

There are a number of people that really deserve a pat on the back. Two that come to mind are two good friends of mine, Jeff B. and Mark G. There has been a major effort made on many fronts to finish this project. Congratulations to all of them.

No, I failed to notice the boiler. I'll look closer next time.

Kindly,

So... Who built it?

Yea, the boiler pressure has been raised to 200 pounds, and the driver diameter reduced to 38", lubrication changed over to wet cellars. Pulls pretty good like that, rides like a Caddy... lots of folks did their jobs well.

I suspect that this was filmed using a GoPro or similar and a "Chesty" mount. It straps to your chest with elastic straps, and provides a relatively solid mount for the camera.

It ends up being like a "body camera" the cops use sometime. The mount is solid and can take some pretty good abuse. I've put them on jousters and had no problems while they gallop down the list.

The GoPro is very wide angle and there is no focus, so you turn it on and forget it. Often the people I put it on quickly forget they're wearing it. They don't need to pay any attention to it. It's fairly compact, though it could snag on things.

The downside is that it looks where your chest is "looking" not your head. In this case it appears he sat at an angle rather than facing straight ahead, which is pretty common. That's how you ended up with compelling footage of the throttle.

The "Chesty" system could be useful for documenting things, for example it would be cool to put one on when you crawl inside of a boiler. While it is a "Set it and forget it" system, I wouldn't suggest testing the FRA electronics rules by wearing one while on crew. But there are plenty of other options where it could be useful and get good footage.

Watched a few other videos of the #111 during break in and further down the road. Much better of course. Seems to be one rompin stompin firebreathing machine. Got a real nice "woof" to her. Congrats on the finished product to those involved. A real nice looking locomotive. Pretty scenery out there too. Regards, John.

Question: are #111, and Nevada Northern #40 & #93 the only US steam locomotives operating with "conversion" piston valve steam chests?

Reason to believe that pressure may have been lowered a little......maybe a little too responsive at 200....could be wrong.

Oil or grease on the pins?

I also noticed the backhead is insulated. Is that original or a modern crew comfort addition?

Good point John. I wondered about that too. That and the smaller driver diameter makes a substantial gain in t.e. If weight on the drivers stays the same, then adhesion becomes less. These were good pullers as they had enough factor of adhesion back in the day. I ran 116 up the 3.7% of Palin Hill on one of John West and George Werner's charters in 1975 and she showed no propensity to lose her feet whatsoever.

She was tagged for 200 psi, but the fireman held her to 175 or 180 pounds. I do believe that's the nicest power to EVER run on the Loop, too.

Grease on the crankpins, wet cellars being considered...

Once in a great while the good guys actually WIN a round. REJOICE.

Given the two inch driver reduction from 40 inches to 38 creates a five percent increase in tractive effort (20,827 to 21,923) The boiler pressure increase increases tractive effort to 24,359 or approximately 17 percent increase in tractive effort without changing the bore or stroke. If the locomotive weight did not change it would drop the factor of adhesion significantly,

The Loop people can lower the operating pressure to 185 psig or ANY lower pressure they want if they determine 200 psig negatively alters the locomotive's operating performance.
