On a lighter note....I've noticed a pattern amongst our ranks.

"Old Martha". "Leakin' Lena". "Nellybelle".

That oil-swilling, ever-ready, faithful shop sidekick with the bald tires and leaky water pump. Gotten us all out of more tight spots than a bail bondsman.

When lifting bags of mortar to point up old brick walls, yes. Mortar Forker.

Our Clark was painted with racing stripes and flame graphics until just before last year's ARM Convention, when it was returned to its original DOD Green.

Nah, our Budah stays in the shop building. Not having concrete floors makes using it harder. Instead, we rely on a Bobcat-style Case that does almost all of our important chores. With the fork attachment, it doubles as a forklift.

Our turn of the previous century forklift has been dubbed the "Backwash Buggy"....

We also have a super duper industrial strength vacuum that we call "Monica".

Not the forklift -- it's actually a John Deere tractor owned by the Master Mechanic. Usually known as "Clif's forklift" or "The John Deere."

Other stuff has earned names, though. The big tamper is known officially as "#115," but is variously called "the Jackson-Jordan" or "that big piece of (expletive deleted)." I named the little one-sided tamper "Tweedledee" because of the annoying "deedledeedledeedle" alarm noise it makes whenever it moves. And the third tamper (actually the first one we got) is known as "The Fountain" because of all the bad hydraulic lines. We call our very worn military surplus backhoe "The Green Machine." The boxcar we store our tools in has become known for some reason as "the carbox." Lessee... Oh, motor car M551 is called "Jhe Jinx" (don't ask).

We lease our lifts (we got a good deal becuase we are a non profit...
One we had for a while was made in (I believe) Checkoslovakia by a company called "Balkancar". It quickly earned, and I mean earned, the name "Balky".

On the Sumpter Valley, We call our 50's vintage Hyster "The Yellow Peril".
