The Friends of the Valley Railroad in Essex, CT has received the donation of the body of New Haven NE-5 caboose C-540 from Landon Lumber Co. in Madison, CT. For years, it had served as Landon's yard office. Now it is to be removed after a new office is built. Thanks to the forethought of another person, all the hardware from the car had been saved, so in effect, it is a 1:1 scale kit. The hope is to get the car to the Valley Railroad's yard by May, and have it painted and assembled this year. The intention is to have it displayed beside the Friends' New Haven boxcar at the VRR Goodspeed Yard in Haddam, CT, right next to the mainline.
Financial assistance is needed now, and volunteer labor will be needed in the spring.
Thank you.

Welcome to the fold of NH caboose owners.

Although the interior of our caboose was heavily modified by Penn Central it has not changed much since then. We use ours as a crew caboose on every train as we run push pull and need a good place for the Brakeman to hang on.

Well I'm happy to say I did put something towards "the cause"... But can you guys tell yet what sort of condition the underframe and truck bolsters are in at this point, or is that something you'll find out when you go to make the move?

I think their $1000 shipping estimate is quite a bit low unless they have someone donating time and equipment.

Mr. Sousakerry-

Since FVRR is quite familiar with acquiring and moving equipment, the firm quote was obtained before posting such an amount.
