I'm with you on this one. The movie company has made it clear that the equipment will be trashed, so I'm sure IRM won't offer the Nebraska Zephyr. There are plenty of old surplus equipment that they can use.

I too fail to see how this can be a bad thing.

Recent example that springs to mind is the caboose tucked behind the NKP mike Fort Wayne is acquiring. Its fire gutted, and could probably be made to work for the movie company since they want a caboose that will eventually be scrapped. Fort Wayne or the city, whichever currently holds the title to it, gets more than scrap value for it and rids themselves of disposing of it. Problem solved!

The caboose is a South Shore caboose, and I don't think thats wise.

I find that comment a little odd....

Kelly Lynch mentioned in the NKP 624 thread that Fort Wayne will not be taking the caboose and a quick internet search revealed at least 3-4 variations of South Shore cabeese that are either in museums or privately owned which is "the carrying capacity" judging by the condition of my example.
It seems to me that this thought process is the same mentality mentioned earlier where we would rather let something rot into the very ground it sits on then to restore it or to part with it while its still in one piece. Last I had heard was that no one was speaking for it and its fate was bleak. The photos below truly leads me to believe nothing will be done with it accept a new private cottage at the most..

it is still one of the custom built south shore cabooses. Sure would not want to see it scrapped up.

At some point it becomes "make a recreation using what little was left as a pattern", but I agree, that could be brought back to life, if somebody was motivated to do so.

The following excerpt was taken from the most recent newsletter of the Old Dominion Chapter, NRHS which is located in Richmond, Virginia. According to the attached, the Chapter is interested (possibly) in selling their 50 ton Industrial Brown Hoist steam crane to an unspecified film company. The crane is described as being "partially restored" on the chapter's website, however I think that a more accurate description would be "disassembled", seeing as that no work has been performed on it in at least a decade.

I do not represent, nor am I affiliated with this organization in any capacity.

Too bad about the fireless, given the “… and would likely be scrapped after shooting" part of the contract.

That crane is not "disasembeled" it just has the boom removed. since there is not another Industrial Brownhoist 50 tonner preserved anywhere it would be a shame to see it scrapped. I thaught the movey company wanted to rent a 250 ton wrecker? Here is one they could probibly rent:

Industrial Brownhoist #11963 250t DW 1948
St Louis San Francisco #99025 (2nd)
Burlington Northern RR 1980
Mississippi RR & Transportation Museum #100 (here1989) Transkentucky Transportation RR #100 Paris, KY (here 2013)

The film company will presumably need to move any acquisitions to a movie shoot location and I suspect that none of the equipment being suggested can move on its own wheels. Maybe it’s time to merge this thread with the Museum group purchase - Transportor trailer and tractor thread and get the Hollywood people to buy that equipment………

John, thanks. You're right - it hasn't been "disassembled" but the boom has been removed. More pictures below.
