Hi,

I'm doing some genealogy research for my book on Richard Jensen, and I was wondering if anyone knows the full name of his lead engineer, Bud Young, the road foreman for the Grand Trunk Western.

Per the article here http://tinyurl.com/kvo6pzj his initials were T.R. A GTW employees' timetable found elsewhere shows him as RFE at Battle Creek, MI.

Bud's given name was Theodore Roosevelt Young and with a moniker like that I would guess that he was born around 1906. He mentioned that he started to work for the GTW in 1924 at the Battle Creek shops; the same year the 5629 was delivered and worked on it before he went on to running. He definitely had an encyclopedic knowledge of the 5629 inside out both operationally and mechanically - as a 20 year old something at the time, I was quite impressed!! He always wore a white shirt and tie - which stayed white - on the runs I was on; which is more that I could say about myself (as in black).....
He was a road foreman of engines in the early 60's; but he went back to running passenger trains so he could overnight in Chicago so he could enjoy the symphony and opera- quite an interesting individual!
Also a bit of trivia about the 5629; Dick put on a new tender in 1967 so the engine would have better range than with the original tender- that tender was off the Soo Line 4018 which he purchased through Hyman Michels.
