Post subject: Display of small locomotive & caboose
PostPosted: Tue Jan 11, 2000 4:39 am

I am on the restoration committee of an ex-Southern Railway depot in the small town of Newton, NC. We have been given a small Porter 0-4-0 saddletank engine and an SR baywindow caboose. We are now in the planning stages of housing this equipment and I was hoping for suggestions from this experienced group. I imagine that a "pole barn" covering would be the most economical method of protection, but it is not necessarily the most attractive. Any thoughts, web links, etc. where we can get a good idea of design, etc of a cheap (Ha!) and attractive design? Thanks.

Matt: In Weatherford, Texas, the Chamber of Commerce is housed in the former "Mission-Style" brick Santa Fe depot. Adjacent, former ATSF side-door caboose 765 is displayed under a "pole barn" sort of open cover. Its design reflects the depot structure architecture...it resembles a passenger shelter one might encounter at stations so equipped. A sketch of the station is on the TVRHA website, and includes addres info for the Chamber, if you want to contact them.
