Bob, either Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum started a book off with a reference to anorak so often that it drove me to the dictionary. It's a hooded parka or coat, worn in arctic climates.

It's a popular belief in Britain that all "trainspotters" (their equivalent of our "foamers", only far more widely known) wear anoraks. In fact sometimes "anorak" is used as a slang term over there to describe trainspotters or anyone else who displays trainspotter-like (nerdy) qualities.
