Post subject: rules poll for operators only
PostPosted: Sat May 03, 2003 10:04 pm

A group of us from Heber Valley had the opportunity of attending the FRA Regional Steam Seminar at Sacramento last month. First of all, thanks to the Museum and it's staff for the facility use, tour of the shops, etc. Secondly, it was great to connect some faces with other posters here at RyPN.

The purpose of the seminar was to instruct on properly documenting the maintanence being performed on steam locomotives (completion of Form 4, documenting repairs, modifications, etc.). The Heber Valley Railroad was asked to be a presenter of how this documentation was handled on a "small operation" (as opposed the the "large operation"--Grand Canyon Railroad). As part of our presentation we also put forth the concept that training of the staff and crews was of high importance. As an example, HVRR has prepared a Lubrication Manual that starts with the basics of lubrication, sorts the different lubricants (educating individuals as to why you don't cross contaminate) and covers the lubrication of both steam locomotives, both diesels, the fueling and lubrication of the generators on the coaches, other equipment on the property, etc.

Also mentioned was our "Rule Book" and it was interesting to me to see the interest it generated after the seminar.

This brings me to my question, how many operators posting here at RyPN have a current printed book of rules of operation (one that is put in the hands of every employee/volunteer) specific for their railroad (not using GCOR)?

Instead of creating a discussion at this point, simply respond to this initial post by entering your name and in the subject line place the name of your operation followed by yes or no. Clear and leave the 'Message' box empty.
