I know in a previous post, a similar topic was discussed. What does a person do however if they are needing to "clean up" a set of trucks or frame on an engine or car and wheel removal is not an option. it would also be very difficult to try and cover the areas where there are bearings / bearing surfaces or places where lubricant is applied.

I am thinking that, in theory, that if the area (joint, bearing, etc) has lube in it, that may or should prevent anything from getting in. However, if there is a void or if something mixes with the lube it can scratch, score, etc the joint or bearing surface.

Do you just wire wheel or needle scale the area and sandblast the rest?

I read in a magazine about using dry ice pellets in sand ballasting equipment. The dry ice removes the gunk like sand would but there is no clean up required and it won't contaminate your bearings. Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds interesting.
