I don't have my old Steam Directories handy so I don't have all my facts straight.

Is that little railroad in Wisconson still around.
I don't remember the name. I recall they had a short ride and a "lumber jack
special" breakfast train.

I know they ran a small 2-6-2 for years or at least according to the Directory.

I'm not only curious if they are still operating but also in some of the history of the operation.

Suddenly, I cannot find my copy of Kalmbach's "Guide to Tourist Railroads" either. I bet my wife knows where it is!
As I recall, the "Camp Five" Railroad closed recently. They had the distiction of running the only steam loco in tourist service on the exact same rails as when it ran in original (revenue) service.
My father-in-law knew many of the principles there, and always told me I could have a very special visit when I went. I always planned on going back some summer... Never wait!

The May 2003 issue of "Trains" magazine carries their annual Guide to Recreational Railroading. On page 17, at the top of the center column is an ad for the "Camp Five Museum" that is located on the old Laona and Northern. They indicate that they are open Monday through Saturday, June 18 through August 30. Hope this helps.

The loco was a 1916 Vulcan 2-6-2. Again, I think the operation is gone.
My mother-in-law is from Laona and dated one of the Connor Boys but did not marry him.

Camp Five is alive and well! Just as Mr. Lewis states, it will open on June 18th, including the steam railroad. They have done the work to bring their engine (Vulcan 2-6-2 No. 4) up to Part 230, and will be running it this summer. They also have a "new" SW-1 on the property. I started an article about the railroad a few years ago that I never finished...perhaps I should finish it and submit it to RYPN? The Lanona & Northern is a neat operation, and well worth a visit.

I think there are several others that operate on the exact same rails. EBT, CATS, and Silverton come to mind right away, I think there might be other too.

The Kettle Moraine Scenic closed recently, but this would be the first I have heard about the Camp Five closing. Could it be that somebody got the two confused?

Tom You are right there; another is the WW&F in Maine,re-building track as they go.

And of course, there are a lot of trolley and
street car lines. My Western Railway Museum here in California occasionally runs SN equipment and the Shoreline Museum in Connecticut runs Connecticut Company equipment,to name a couple more.

Sorry everyone! I guess it was the KM and not Camp 5 that recently shut down. I guess I confused them as they were both on my "someday when I go back to my wife's hometown" list.
I still recall them boasting as to being the only orignal loco on original location tourist line, but the other posts do make me wonder if there was another angle to the claim?
