RGS 346 Coming to Strasburg

Grapevine talk on the narrow gauge boards suggests that Colorado RR Museum is sending RGS 2-8-0#346 to Strasburg soon for a complete rebuild. Kelly or Lynn, can you confirm or deny this? Ewan

I think they might mean Uhrich Locomotive Works in Strasburg, CO. When Colorado folks toss the term Strasburg around that's usually who they mean--they've done work for Georgetown Loop and for the Boulder, CO park train restoration project.

I agree with Erik, but it would be cool if it did go to PA. It could broken in on the Eastie...

Yes, the Colorado RR Museum is sending Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge 2-8-0 #346 to Strasburg PA for boiler work. Locomotive is stripped down to a boiler on wheels, Strasburg will do the boiler repairs and then ship the loco back to Colorado for final assembly.

Wow! That's interesting--I'll have to try to get up to Lancaster to see the boiler in the shop while she's out east!

In a letter I recieved from the Colorado Railroad Museum this weekend they said that the locomotive was going to be sent off to Pennsylvania not only for boiler repair but some running gear work also. No specific schedule was given for the work to be done and funds were still in the process of being raised. They said that this work should keep old 346 running for another half century.
