A friend of mine is preparing a Wikipedia article on Western Maryland (ex-C&O) No. 1309; does anyone here have a photo of 1309, either from its time at the B&O museum or now at WM Scenic, that you'd agree could be included in his article? Photo credit would be given.

Please PM me if so.

Thanks.

Not my photos, but here are some from a few months back when her first steam test wasn’t underway.

Here's a shot I took back in 1979 while visiting the B&O Museum with my family. Don't know if this is what you are looking for or not. If so, feel free to use it or I can email you a higher resolution image.

This photo dates from when the engine was in Chicago on exhibition at the railroad fair in 1949, from Trains magazine's site.

Have been in contact with the OP and this one, taken at the B&O Museum back in October 2009, should be appearing in Wikimedia Commons files for use in the next day or so.........

Thanks all for your replies!

My friend advises that multiple photos can be accompany the article.

The easiest way to do this, he tells me, is for the photographer to upload it to Wikipedia itself as "C&O 1309.jpg" You will need to create a Wikipedia account to do so.

I will post the link here once the article is published.

Thanks again.

There is a difference between the Western Maryland RAILWAY, the Western Maryland SCENIC Railroad and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.

I wish people would remember this when they comment on steam engines which were never owned or operated by the Western Maryland RAILWAY. The Western Maryland SCENIC does a great job at what they do; run a tourist railroad.

The last time I checked, the only thing that is genuine Western Maryland RAILWAY at the Western Maryland SCENIC Railroad is the right-of-way, a station and a caboose.

Painting equipment Western Maryland RAILWAY does not make it Western Maryland RAILWAY no more than putting a saddle on a bull makes it a horse.

Preservation is, or was, the underlying premise of this forum. It seems to me that it gets lost on occasion.

It IS a C&O mallet.

Words mean things.

Bit of conflict within the article. Roller bearings are mentioned as being fitted, yet we know that 12 crown brasses were stolen, which implies it is a standard plain bearing set up. I believe we resolved it somewhere a bit back that the locomotive is indeed not roller bearing equipped, but I cant remember which thread about the engine that was.

Sadly, SteamLocomotive.com and sites like Wikipedia that utilize that resource as a source, continue to identify it as having roller bearings despite the evidence that says otherwise. Until that's corrected, it will continue to be regularly misidentified on the internet.

She also lacks a cast frame. It's really a stretch to call her a modern steam locomotive when she was in most regards a 40 year old design.
