Fort Madison, Farmington & Western RR Donnellson, IA
everything sold June 2008

Both had steam cranes that were presumably scrapped.

Thanks PMC but you are echoing my onw information back to me. Take a look at who provided the US information for International Steam.

"What happened to the equipment from these operations?

Jerry Jacobson purchased at auction much of the rolling stock from the former STEAM (Silver Throttle Engine And Museum) operation in Minerva. One of the pieces that he had his employees cosmetically restore back to its original 1949 appearance was former Wheeling & Lake Erie steel caboose #0222. His crew did a great job, and, today, it's a thing of beauty. Be safe.

Who is Jerry Jacobson and where is he located? Any idea what happened to the crane?

He passed some time back, but not before fulfilling every railfain's dream of owning a successful railroad (the Ohio Central) and setting the Age of Steam Roundhouse.

The Fort Madison Museum shut down after its owner Dave Miner died. His widow wanted nothing to do with the operation and sold off everything.

Well, I was going to post this link but I see you commented on this page as well.

https://akronrrclub.wordpress.com/tag/s ... f-minerva/

"Jerry Jacobson already owns a sizable fleet of steam locomotives and passenger cars, but his holding got larger this week when he bought much of the assets of the Steam Railroad Museum of Minerva.

During an auction held Thursday afternoon (October 14, 2009), Jacobson, a lifetime member of the Akron Railroad Club, purchased two diesel locomotives, two passenger cars, a baggage car and a caboose."

No mention of the crane in any article I have found, but one of the AOS guys (one posted above) might know what happened to it.

The Aledo depot is just an event space, and their phone number is disconnected (though it was still there as of April), so they probably took the equipment as part of the attraction rather than as preservation, and probably don't know/ care what happened to the crane.

Thanks to you all for responding. Getting information on defunct museums can be like pulling teeth.

This guy would know what happened to the Minerva crane: https://www.cantonrep.com/article/20091 ... /310139894

“Everything sells absolute,” said George Kiko of Kiko Auctioneers & Realtors (https://www.kikoauctions.com/). “There is no minimum bid. Whatever they bring, they bring. Scrap dealers will be interested because they weigh so much. You don’t auction trains everyday. Caboose cars are hard to come by. People might want to buy them and put them in their backyards.”

Actually gives one pause, considering the discussion in another thread about how likely a preserved steam locomotive is to actually be scrapped.

There are tours and events scheduled all summer if the weather ever breaks and you can visit.

I'm hoping at some point AOS will do a full roster of equipment. They showed off some of the cars they restored but you can see lines of cars in the background that sometimes you're curious about.

I read the whole Age of Steam web site; it is amazing who Jerry and his crew have done.

They have the steam locos of course but also a fireless cooker, Diesels and passenger cars. And of course that Roundhouse and back shop.
