What is the geared speed for GE 65-tonner? TIA

According to a Navy manual max permisable speed is 42 mph

Thanks for the maintenance manual scans. 40 mph may be a problem for light engine move on Class One road mainline which is why I asked.

If it's a 65 tonner with the hypoid gear drive, there is a way to disengage the traction motors. It basically involves re-shimming the intermediate shaft so that the hypoid gears don't mesh with each other. You can do this without taking the gearcase apart, and in theory this can be done in the field. (Not comfortably, though.) Here's a photo of the inner workings:

I will second the motion, offered by Joe Nugent above. If the traction motor is mounted transverse to the axle, as in his photo, it has the hypoid gear drive. Any movement over 25 mph, with the motor engaged, is asking for trouble.

The disengagement of the motor from the gear train is a fairly straightforward process. It is strongly encouraged for any movement dead in tow.
