Southern California Railway Museum Closing until April 30, 2020.

March 13, 2020, Perris California– The Southern California Railway Museum (SCRM), in accordance with the order from the Health Officer of the County of Riverside, will be closing the museum until April 30th, 2020.

"The health and safety of our employees, members, guests, and volunteers is our primary concern," stated Hank Winn, CEO of Southern California Railway Museum. "We will be monitoring the situation closely and posting any updates on our website at socalrailway.org."

A Message From The California State Railroad Museum

The California State Railroad Museum remains open, with no plans to interrupt regular operating hours. The health, safety, and well-being of our community, members, volunteers, and staff is our top priority. We are continually updating the Museum’s protocols in active response to guidance and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, and regional public health authorities.

The Museum encourages our community to practice healthy habits, including frequent and thorough hand-washing with soap and water, covering coughs with a tissue, and staying home if sick and not feeling well.

To Our Guests:

As communities begin to feel the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), I want to share with you the steps we’re taking at the Strasburg Rail Road to help protect the health and safety of our Guests and Team Members, which is always our top priority.

We’re closely monitoring local and national reports on the evolving impact of COVID-19 and, based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, as well as additional government agencies and health care providers, we’ve developed plans which will allow us to respond timely and appropriately.

We’ve established enhanced cleaning protocols, increasing the frequency of cleaning in all public and back-of-house spaces. These protocols include frequently disinfecting often-touched surfaces such as door handles, countertops, point of sale system surfaces and restroom surfaces.

We’re asking all our Team Members (and we urge everyone) to follow the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the infection. These guidelines include:

• Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Cover a cough or sneeze – preferably with a disposable tissue.
• Avoid touching your face – especially your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects.
• Stay home if you have flu-like symptoms.

We feel deeply for those who have been affected. Thankfully, as of now, we’re not aware of any Team Member contracting COVID-19, however, we have implemented guidelines that instruct any Team Member who may develop symptoms, or whom come into contact with infected individuals, to stay home and follow the CDC’s instructions.

Currently, the Strasburg Rail Road is open for departures as scheduled. If we become aware of any condition that would make it unsafe for the railroad to operate, please rest assured that we’ll close until those conditions have been addressed and that refunds will be issued for any departures impacted by such a closure.

Again, the health and safety of our guests and associates are our top priority and we’re committed to doing our part to help keep you safe.

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad will close Monday for at least a week, according to Mark Greksa, owner of the train.

“While this is a very difficult decision, we are following Governor Polis’ lead in the tourism sector and suspending operations for at least a week,” said Greksa in a press release. “This has a clear ripple effect on our staff, our guests from around the world and our local economy. But it is clearly in the best long-term interest of everyone we serve to lead by example in the Royal Gorge Region. We must do our part to flatten the curve of COVID-19.”

While some staff will be retained during hiatus, most staff will be laid off until operations resume. The train will be assisting laid off staff members throughout the process and helping them access federal emergency dollars that may become available. Greksa also has established a $10,000 emergency fund for laid-off staff.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is currently planning to be open for the upcoming 50th season.

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad plans to stop its once-a-day trains to Cascade starting Friday, with the possibility of suspending the train sooner.

The decision came Monday afternoon after meetings among the railroad’s team to review procedures in response to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.

D&SNG General Manager John Harper said the railroad had been limiting the number of people on its train to Cascade to 250 based on a recommendation from San Juan Basin Public Health. Railroad executives had expected that ceiling recommendation from the health department to decrease as COVID-19’s spread grew, but that’s now mute with the decision to suspend runs to Cascade.

San Juan Basin Public Health had limited the number of people in the depot, the museum and on board the train at any one time to 250 people, and daily consultations with the health department had been used to update that number, Harper said.

Train Rides Suspended at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park announced the suspension of train rides at the park. In keeping with public health and safety guidance, the park delayed all scheduled school, excursion and charter rides on the historic railroad, until further notice.

Railtown 1897 SHP has not been directly affected by COVID-19. The decision to postpone services was based on new public safety guidelines released by health officials at all levels of government. We continue to monitor the situation carefully.

While the park remains open to visitors, Railtown 1897 will not be offering guided tours and will be temporarily closing the Depot Store.
