In today's Editor's Notebook, more on Edward Hopper, a question about a 1944 ALCO locomotive advertisement, and a few thoughts on Morse code.

I really enjoyed the "Editor's Notebook" on Hopper. There is an art and beauty to the way you presented everything -- thank you. I really had no idea how many railroad scenes Hopper had painted.

I guess when I look at the Hopper paintings that feature railroad scenes I feel like he just liked railroads and he just liked scenery -- and he painted what he liked. Practically every railroad photographer enjoys a beautiful sunset behind a railroad scene. So do we have to put an interpretation on that? Just enjoy the photo - enjoy the painting.
