Hi Guys:
Getting back on topic, does anyone have the status of all the surviving locomotives, such as condition and if or when they will be rebuilt? Thanks - David Notarius, somewhere in the Fens of Cambridgeshire, U K

Hi David
According to the Most recent Timber Transfer which is the magazine put out by the Friends of the East broad Top.
Engines 14 and 16, are in the best condition to be rebuilt. Also, work has started on also rebuilding the railroad also. Pat.

There was a large gathering of volunteers having lunch in the trolley museum pavilion when I stopped by today. I took some pictures of the EBT progress.

Great photos, They are doing an amazing amount of track-work in the shops area. I wish more photos were posted. I also am wondering about the arson tie fire recently reported, but no follow up on what was burned and if the perps were ever caught. Apparently they also tagged a nearby bridge. (I don't think it's the same bridge that was hit by an oversized piece of trucked equipment--they found that guy.

There is a short report on the Narrow Gauge Discussion Forum with one photo that was posted on Saturday. This is reported as a two-day work session. A number of different projects were being worked on.

East Broad Top work session 6/13/20

Looks like those hoppers are only good to haul Swiss cheese! In their condition it will be a wonder if they'll make it as far as the scrapper!

In the car shop are new sides for the hoppers. As long as the framing is OK, these are an "easy" rebuild. I don't know how many sides are in the "stack" but there's the pattern, not hard to make more, it's just flat metal with holes (and $$)

I thought all/most of those old hoppers had the brass removed?

I am rather curious. How is all of this being funded so suddenly? The railroad has been dormant for many years, and damn near overnight massive projects are underway. More so then your average fundraising would ever cover. Not complaining by any means, just curious. Maybe it could prove to be a model for others.

You apparently missed the big news. The EBT was sold to the EBT Foundation, who have the financing to do this. It's a great bunch of very knowledgeable railroad restorers/historians in charge now. BIG things happening!!

Some of those hoppers look better than ConRail 70 ton hoppers from the late 1980s.

Yes - Plenty about the railroad being purchased by the new non-profit (well, they are trying to be, I cant imagine why they would be turned down), lead by several well known's.

But nothing (that I see) on how all of this work is being funded. Private backer? Donations? What? Are the well known advisors/board bankrolling this also?

Were not talking about Tom going out with a few gallons of Rustolium here and painting a hopper. They began a massive track rebuilding program, shop restoration, locomotive restoration.. thats a pretty big chunk of change to start out with on a brand new non profit.

To put it simply - Yes, the founders of the East Broad Top non-profit are putting their money where their mouths are!

A number of others are volunteering their time and expertise, plus the work of The Friends.

Back in the day, was that a regular part of renewal, replacing the sides?

Considering there is a stack of sides in the car shop, I would say, "Yes."
But I'm not from the area, so that's just an observation on my part.
