Is there a roster available of surviving ACY rolling stock?

There is or was a AC&Y Historical Society so they might know. Of course the NKP 4-6-0 at Steamtown was actually a former AC&Y engine; at least that is my understanding.
They certainly had some good looking MIKEs that ran through my county here in Ohio.

There is a 40 foot box car at a defunct scrap yard in Cumberland, Maryland that has been confirmed by other independent sources to be VCBX (Vesuvious Crucible) 1005.

There are other markings on the car that seem to indicate that a previous owner/operator was Akron, Canton & Youngstown. I am going to inspect it in greater detail Saturday.

If there are any ACY adherents that have resources that tell which cars were sold to whom, now would be a good time to share them.

The car is in no jeopardy. It has been in its current location for 30-40 years and it isn't going anywhere any time soon. When it does leave, it is most likely to wind up on my short line with my CRIP PS-1.

Not to go spending other people's money, but maybe going to AoS might be a better place for it to end up? Probably about as close to Akron as it could get, and about as much of a guarantee of being preserved long-term as possible.

I received a request from my friend and fellow RyPN member Tom Davidson, who currently does not have the capability to post on here, for wm303. If, when he goes to look at the car could he determine it's length, any construction information (part or all wood or steel, etc.), find any markings (all or most of a number would be golden), and take a photo of it that could be posted here. Tom is pretty much one of THE AC&Y freight car experts, so if he can get enough information he could answer pretty much all of the questions about the car.

I understand some wooden boxcars survive at Mid-Continent.

Looks like I photographed some of them there (not including the yellow one) back in 2011...

There was at least one AC&Y boxcar in Norfolk Southern maintenance of way service, assigned to a T&S gang, although it has been 17 years since I photographed it at Hollywood, Alabama (time flies). I have no idea if it is still around.

I wasn't able to make it to Cumberland to inspect VCBX 1005 today, but a friend did go and sent the attached photos.

The car is in a very confined and difficult to negotiate space between a building and a chain link fence, and it is further obscured by vegetation.

There are 2 views of the interior, which may provide some clues as to the manufacturer, and therefore, lineage.

Sometimes, the car number appears on the interior next to the sliding center door. I have seen it on a number of different box cars. Your friend took some photos FROM the center toward the ends, did he also perhaps take an interior photo of the area surrounding the door?
