I remember 4 at CF&I in Birdsboro. She was the big engine there (2 and 3 are 0-4-0T's; both survive) and the plant was a sintering plant for local iron ore. She was able to do the job and moved the freight cars as needed.

When she went to Strasburg, they tried her in passenger service and learned they needed bigger engines. 4/1187 had no job at Strasburg. This is why she was surplus to their needs.

While I would certainly enjoy seeing her run again, where's the post confirming this? Plans can change, but their release in early August 3rd stated, in part, "cosmetic restoration".

Teardowns for cosmetic restoration can be deceptively similar to an operational restoration to a certain extent.

True Josh, but this particular locomotive is a real American treasure, and so unique. I'm certain that as AOS performs any restoration, and allowing for budget priorities, they'll bring her back as closely to operational as is warranted. I think the focus is, 1187 is out of the destructive forces of weather and into the protective hands of people who have a plan for some type of accurate restoration.

Yes, I read that but I don't have an account. Can someone do a screenshot and post, please?

They are evaluating the locomotive, a decision will be made based on the evaluation.

I mean, it does make sense.

It’s a unique locomotive that’s small enough to operate in the confines of the Sugarcreek yards, much like M&NF 12.

Yes. And... Jerry was a true leader and left the AOS with a clear vision. That helps.
