Manchester is right on I-90. If someone could post accurate directions from the exit, this would be an interesting archeological site to visit. Incidently, didn't the site linked below used to have NY roundhouses listed also? Can't seem to find it now.

I was up in Manchester last year looking at the wooden cars as possible preservation candidates for the ARHS. The wrong-way car is in fair shape, outside of the sun-destroyed wood on the south-facing side of the car. When I was there last year, it seemed like the owners were in a hurry to move the wooden cars, so I'm surprised to see them still there.

Outside of finding a suitable pair of trucks, the wooden cars seem to only be good for storage. Some work needs to be done on the roof to remove the grain hatches that were added while the cars have been sitting.

The main roadblock the ARHS faced was not having a place that we have control over in which to store the cars. We also estimated that the rigging and trucking costs would be close to $8k, if I'm remembering correctly, to have the wrong-way car trucked down to eastern PA.

I have more detailed shots of the underframe and roof, if anyone is interested in working to preserve these cars. If any groups out there have a suitable long-term storage space, the ARHS Board may still be interested in helping to save these cars.
