Back in the Fall of 2019, I grabbed a shot of some equipment sitting behind the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania - "Out of sight, on my mind", lol.

The green diesel does not appear to be on the Museum's roster, unless perhaps it is one of two referred to as "Diesels (2) Industrial, Very small." Anyone have details about this switcher?

The red box car behind 2-8-0 No. 7688 I do not believe is listed on the Museum's roster, I do not know why as it has been there (even on display at least once) for years. Apparently, it is a Pullman Standard built "high cube" box car built in 1966 for the NYC. 244039 was donated to the Museum in 2007. Wondered - why is it no longer on display? Restoration work? Parts storage?

And the same for PRR 2-8-0 No. 7688 - why was it moved off display? Is it perhaps the first of 5 locomotives to be cosmetically restored and placed in the delayed new roundhouse? The others said to be on that list are 4-8-2 No. 6755, 4-6-2 No. 3750, 2-8-2 No. 520 and 0-6-0 No. 1670.

The little green loco is former Pennsylvania Power & Light 1, a 1949 18 Ton Plymouth, I believe.

The boxcar is one of two former US Army PS-1 boxcars from 1951.

Likely- there was also a listing as: "Shop Use/ Not For Display, Diesel Shop Switcher, 18 Ton, Pennsylvania Power and Light, No. 1"

I thought it might have been a typo referring to the fireless locomotive inside. Would be neat to see in its original paint scheme.

The boxcar is one of two former US Army PS-1 boxcars from 1951.

(More equipment (in addition to the 86' box car) that is there but not on the roster).

Still curious as to why they are off the roster, and if No. 7688 is in line for a pending restoration - if so, maybe it has already been started?

PRR H10s No. 7688 is destined to go in the Roundhouse that will be built around the ex-P&R (West Cressona) and R.Co. (Bridgeport) 100 foot turntable at the RR Museum of PA. Same turntable; 2 locations.

Also planned for the Roundhouse are M1b No. 6755, K4s No. 3750, L1s No. 520, E6s No. 460, and B6sb No. 1670. They will have all been restored before going into the Roundhouse.

What’s the status of the roundhouse? I haven’t heard much since it was announced and figured it had quietly been cancelled and forgotten about.

If we’re being technical, 460 was selected for restoration first.

Based on the look of the 7688, seems likely it gets fixed up hopefully sooner rather than later. But I’ve seen the 6755, 520, 3750 and 7688 sitting outside myself, gonna take a lot of time and effort for each, they all certainly look rough

The 5 locomotives noted in this thread are expected to be placed in the new roundhouse.

No. 460 has been restored, but I'm not sure if that is one of the locomotives that will be moved into the Roundhouse?

Engine 460 has been restored and is on display inside the Museum. The other engines are awaiting their turn.

As to the John Bull replica I remember it and the high-cube boxcar at Expo 86 in Vancouver. It was nice of Conrail to donate the boxcar for moving the John Bull safely.

No roundhouse for 4800?

CR 244039 is an eight-door 86-foot auto parts boxcar that was likely built for a dedicated pool serving Chevrolet plants. Over time auto parts boxcars were mixed across suppliers and could also be found hauling other very light commodities - such as breakfast cereal.

I'm aware of two other 86-foot cars that have been preserved and this is the only 8-door variant. They offer lots of potential to show how railroads actively participated in the development of new supply chain strategies after WWII that produced iconic American products.

COVID-19 really slowed things at the RRMPA.

As far as I know the roundhouse will be built and the PRR engines will go in it. 460 will have a track with rollers so the drivers and rods can turn.

As to 4800, I has occurred to me if a restored 4800 goes in the Museum Building, with 4935 already in there, there will be 2 GG1's. The RRM really needs another building and 4800 can go in there with the Metroliner, E60 and AEM-7. Save room for an Acela Power Car too.
