Just returned from the Tobyhanna excursion --- a big thank you to the Steamtown folks for putting on one of the best shows in the northeast. It's truly a 1920's experience --- I get goosebumps every time I sit in that first car listening to that engine work its butt off up that grade. The excursion was a first class operation! Turnout was great --- I noticed even the 2 PM diesel trip looked sold out! I can only hope these excursions continue --- they are a fantastic tribute to American railroading!

I second this. I was on today's Tobyhana trip as well. Nice to go there when the tempersture is above freezing. I also got to talk with Dave Crosby amd Superheater as well. It's always fun to put some faces to the names of the folks we meeet on the internet.

I'll definately add Steamtown to one of my annual stops.

My father and I took the trip also. The 2317 sure does make alot of noise on any trip, but it was definately worth the 25.00 dollar ticket price. The best was the Morris dancers at the Tobyhanna depot. I still am laughing about that.

Hello All

Yes the dancers were different... I remarked to a few friends how "In any other place but Steamtown, I'd find that a strange sight". It was nice to meet Al Patterson also (not as strange of a sight).

The Tobyhanna trips seem to be doing (very) well and will make up the bulk of next years 30-ish excursion trips from what I'm told. This is the last "big year" for excursions out of Scranton.

Its unfortuante that the Moscow run is going to be phased out. That leaves the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter of the NRHS without a major source of income. They're the folks who have raised and/or spent over $500,000 on the Boston and Maine 3713 project since 1995. I guess there is a downfall to everything.

Don't forget the Water Gap Trips are coming up, and I believe that tickets for the trips on Oct 11 & Oct 25 should go on sale soon. Last I heard there are still tickets left on the Aug 30 trip as well, though I don't know how many.

The August 30 trip will be one heck of a train with something like a dozen coaches, a "VIP" lounge car and the LV business car along with diesel helpers out of Scranton.

My son and I also were there for the trip as always I think the folkes at Steamtown did a wonderfull job. We who attend these special trips should let the park agency know how we feal about these trips and and the shorter ones to Moscaw.
The trip on Saturday was a good one though a little long a slow. I understand the track is restricted. Also the row could use a good cleaning if these trips are going to continue.
It was a great weakend and we are looking forward to the trip to the Watergap.
