Could be but Cornwall is right on the Ontario/Quebec line, and is just up river from Montreal. It's much nearer to Montreal (112km) vs Toronto (437km). Halton is in Milton, Ontario which is west of Toronto, and they are strictly TTC gauge of 4"10 7/8".

I could throw the rail museum at Smiths Falls, ONT, into the equation, as they are in Eastern Ontario.
Went there in 2007 and they had one steam loco on display, together with one diesel, so an electric would enable them to have representatives of all of the main three forms of motive power there!

Halton already have one ex Cornwall loco, though it is preserved in its earlier Lake Erie & Northern colours...

Does Halton have any standard gauge track, or is it all Toronto gauge?

Halton County is strictly TTC gauge, but that hasn't stopped them from acquiring standard gauge equipment before. If they intend on operating they just get it regauged. London & Port Stanley Railway #8 is the workhorse of their fleet and it was standard gauge until it got to Halton County. TTC gauge is less than 2" wider than standard gauge, so if they don't intend on operating the equipment it can still roll on the TTC gauge track. They just have to take it slow and be very careful.

There won't be any issue with that at all. I'm with the Elgin County Railway Museum in Southern Ontario. We've acquired several pieces of equipment from Expo Rail and other places in Quebec before without any issue what so ever.

Hi All,
I was just on Cornwall's web page, looking for a contact to email about the supposed "plans" to gut the loco and sell the scrap to help pay for a cosmetic restoration of the exterior.... and thought to check the Open Tenders to see if the work was being tendered. It turns out, there is an open tender regarding the locomotive - a tender looking for someone to move the "82 Ton" locomotive to the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario (RMEO) in Smiths Falls..
Doesnt sound like the plan to gut the loco is on the table any more!

Hopefully it ends up there, intact !

Pete
