Close to a year ago President of the now dissolved Bluewater Chapter of the NRHS John Moore mailed me original issues of the Bluewater Sentinel (Monthly Bluewater Magazine) with over 50 copies ranging from 1985 to 1991 in them have Priceless information on the likes of which you will NEVER find in a regular railroad book or online. Included in these were the railroad days issues of when the Bluewater Chapter helped host at Greenfield Villages now defunct railroad days event. Included are close to never before seen photos of GFV's steam locomotives such as freight runs, old now auctioned off equipment, and older more spiffy paint jobs on the Edison, Torch Lake, and even Detroit and Mackinac 8. if I could find a way to create Hi-res scans and put all of the Sentinel issues I have online I without a doubt would as long as it falls within the legal copyright and fair use boundaries. I'd genuinely hate to see these photo's be lost to the test of time should the originals be stored in someone's shed or basement in an old box awaiting to be opened or more than likely auctioned off to some other photo collector. (BTW I believe the Dash 8 in the photo is CR 8138 or 8438 could be either one)

Almost forgot these two: D&M 8 on 5-31-21, Henry Ford's private car Fairlane and some other unusual stuff.

Something just seems off about #8 to me

Is the stack just abnormally small? Or are the domes abnormally large for a loco of that size.

Half the stack is blocked by the white "extra" flag in the first photo.

Please take another look at the first page of the Oct 1991 issue of their newsletter --- Bluewater's participation in this event was limited to providing a manned display table.

They had nothing to do with the planning, administration or operation of this event.

The exact words were "helped host". They didn't claim to run or organize it.

It's negativity of this nature--by one of its own representatives, in this case--that helps kill off events like that Museum's "now-defunct" Railroad Days, and helps to render the NRHS itself an increasingly anachronistic irrelevancy. (Note also the fate of the Bluewater Michigan Chapter itself.)

Maybe we should just be glad you didn't demand the removal of the photos for copyright infringement.

Calling Railroad days “now defunct” seems a bit odd. I mean I’ve never seen a freight train run but on any event weekend they have 2 steam trains in operation with plenty of opportunities to photograph locomotives on the turntable, at the only regularly operating coal tower in the USA, by the roundhouse, etc.

It would really be nice in Greenfield Village sponsored a vintage freight train event; perhaps on a weekend before the regular season began. They certainly have enough historic freight cars that they could do it. Maybe someday.....!

Bluewater used to use events like the one at Greenfield Village as marketing/ outreach opportunities (as do Amtrak and NS), not events they "host" or even sponsor.

The decision to hold special events at what is now called the "Henry Ford" is totally up to their management and once the virus goes away, they could easily hold another railroad event if they wanted to.

The same would apply to a visit by "Thomas".

It's unfortunate that so many people post things on this forum without checking their facts first.

Greenfield Village is still called Greenfield Village. “the Henry Ford” is the Museum, Greenfield Village and the Factory Tour. So the village is part of “the Henry Ford” but is still Greenfield Village.

Without the participation of other organizations such as model RR clubs, other rail museums, NRHS Chapters, etc. at events like these, they are far lesser "events"--possibly not even really an "event" after all.

And it's useless, nitpicking pedantry like this over a couple innocent (in this case) words about a long-over event that has already driven many, many people from the national NRHS and other similar organizations, or kept them from joining--including people I know--and has me on the verge of quitting as well.

VERY seriously, if you choose to pick a verbal tussle online over the exact meaning if "helped host" when said organization/chapter doesn't even exist any more, then I really have no use for you................ and probably not the organization you represent.

Which is ironic, given the latest issue of NRHS News has on its front page an officer begging the membership for volunteer comptrollers........

I thought the same thing, and not because of the flag. She seems a bit squat, like low profile. Maybe it's the large domes and headlight, and/or maybe the cab is a bit lower than it might be. I can't pinpoint it, but it seems odd somehow.

I wonder if she was built to go under a low overpass or something similar? Glover built 2 squashed-down 0-6-0Ts for Cherokee Brick with low stack, cab and domes. They do seem disproportionate on the photo without the flag in the way.
