Can someone send the CDC’s contact info and website link to the TSA? Is what we have here a failure to communicate or is that just the way he wants it?

A week ago today, our rural village was invaded by close to 100 people from a Toronto film crew shooting a few scenes for a tv series. Although they all wore surgical-type masks, it seemed rather incongruous to see all these people filming next to a restaurant that has been locked down for seated dining for several months. I guess government subsidized films, with mainly American actors, are allowable gatherings, but a family bbq is a criminal offense.
It is rather refreshing to see many events open to the public in the United States. Most, if not all, public events in Canada have essentially been cancelled for yet another year. Small businesses are going broke regularly. We have lost several restaurants, a yoga studio, and others, while their staff members have basically been left in limbo. Meanwhile, politicians and government workers have not missed a paycheck. I have seen local road department workers "hiding" on back sideroads and doing nothing. It is a disgrace to see government types get fatter and saucier at the expense of working folks.
I have nothing against wearing a mask in a place of business until this passes. As far as permanent mask usage, let's leave that to the softheads who vote left or liberal.
If you think bigger government is the answer, here is a famous test case worth studying. A previous socialist government in the U.S went after a family business. Read about the Schechter Bros. v the United States:

https://cnx.org/contents/Wj6M5OUf@4/%F0 ... r-Brothers

F.D. Roosevelt was a decent man, but even he, and certainly the leftists who gained power following his coat tails, could not help themselves in pursuing big government policies. However, they chose to make an example of a small family business in the poultry packing industry. The Schechters were religious Jews, and were hard working business people. They had no time for academic, socialist-government, silver spoon socialists. They fought hard, and won, in the Supreme Court.
In the course of this virus crisis in Canada, the Trudeau government has been unable to resist enacting laws that restrict our freedoms in areas not connected to Covid-19. That is what leftists do. All of the idiots in your country, not to be outdone by Canadian idiocy, got together and selected the biggest idiot from among you as your leader. Good luck with the guys and gals.

Those "government types" are working folks too.

Everybody needs to take a time out here. Public health situations like we are going through don't have a political aspect, just a health aspect. They have no more to do with "tyranny" than traffic laws that we mostly obey. Take a chill pill and stop with suggesting such things are behind mask rules. Just because you disagree doesn't make it "government over-reach" unless you just can't accept the concept of any kind of government at all.

Good advice that everyone take a chill pill. Yes, it is a shame that what is obviously a heath issue has become so political. Thanks to our recently departed ( thank goodness !! ) former CIC mask wearing was turned into an issue it isn't.

Just wear the mask where it is still mandated and do all you can to convince those within your circle of influence to get vaccinated.

May I remind you of the words of a recent top Presidential advisor:

"You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." --Rahm Emanuel, 2008

Words like that should scare people. And did. It openly reveals opportunistic politicians with goals of changes that would otherwise be opposed, taking advantages of short-term problems.

If you actually think that crises of this sort won't be exploited to advance political agendas and goals--and thus aren't maliciously turned into situations with political aspects, like it or not--then you are either delusional or must have been guarding Jack Benny's safe since before the Civil War or something. Large swaths of the American public have come to expect, and thus demand, "political" actions to address situations that have naught to do with politics. Thus, politicians feel they have to be SEEN to be "doing something.....", effective or not.

"How about this..... the CDC and Tony “The Science” Fauci tells us that masks are no longer necessary for vaccinated individuals. Uncle Joe from Scranton and the rest of the White House is onboard. Let’s (this includes the FRA and TSA) all get on the same page and quell the confusion and frustration. If individuals still want to wear masks, go ahead. As always, mileage will vary."

I was planning to visit this Connecticut museum/railroad later this year, but if these represent its official positions, I think I'm better off giving it a miss, whether for the benefit of my health or my sanity. If these are simply the political rantings of an individual member or volunteer rather than the official positions of the identified organization(s), it/they seem to be in desperate need of a social media policy. Or, perhaps ridership and donations are overflowing despite this, and the risk of turning off anyone willing to buy a ticket or contribute in some way is considered immaterial. I guess mileage may vary.

I concur with Mr. Rowland. Just take a chill pill and wear where it is still mandated. It is simple as that.

Can we get a Admin or Moderator to lock this thread. It is literally a dead horse being beat over several times now.

Honestly it's not a simple matter, and Ross Rowland's advice is just his opinion. This is an unjust regulation that will hurt tourist railroads and museums, frankly when I return stateside, I don't plan to go anywhere that has a mass requirement, I'm tired of it, it's been too long, it's become a tool of oppression. The science isn't completely there particularly with the types and how masks are being warn.

If you want to wear one, wear it, otherwise don't, anyone in the US can get a vaccine with out much trouble if they want it. It's time for personal choice or responsibility. The government hypocracy to save just one life is infuriating, the same government that allows tobacco and alcohol sales, because if you save just one life... Cigarettes and tobacco kill alot of people each year...

You do realize that the former POTUS was not the cause of people questioning masks. You do realize that people all over the world question and protest masks?

The former POTUS WAS very much responsible for the whole mask issue becoming political.

On the day back in Feb. 2020 when the CDC advised that wearing a mask was an effective way to blunt the transmission of the virus Trump got on stage and said " you can wear it if you want, but I don't intend to". That was it and many of his followers quickly made it into a pro-Trump or anti-Trump issue.

Gratefully for the nation his total bungling of the entire issue cost him the election but what an awful cost in terms of lives lost.

Just wear the mask where required. Ross Rowland

I prefer that the thread be left to continue. I think it is an interesting and productive discussion. I don’t see it as beating a dead horse, as you say.

What I find interesting is that many here are demanding that others just comply with the rules and wear a mask. Yet few, if any, here have said they are refusing to wear a mask. They are just saying that they think it is inconvenient and unnecessary. So I get the impression that some here do not believe others have the right to merely question official government instructions, let alone disobey them. But actually we are free to question anything. To some extent, it is our duty.

If I did not like the discussion topic or the opinions being expressed, I would simply not read the thread.

Yeah, because personal choice and responsibility has worked out so well so far...

I really don't see anything productive here to speak of. Everyone has their own take on things, they believe what they wanna believe and nobody's going to sway anyone else. You only have to read the thread to see that in action for pretty much everyone posting (yes, including myself).
This subject is almost as bad as talking about religion or politics.

Careful what you wish for!

I plan to thank God for my brain and America for my freedom by using both competently.

Honestly what I see from much of the country looks, walks and quacks like a spoiled child having a temper tantrum / trying to get away with something when you know you're not supposed to.

Anybody who's read Tom Clancy's *Executive Orders* knows what you do to beat a virus. Clancy was all about good people being competent. In his world there's a shared sense of the public good, and everybody knows what to do and snaps to it and wins.

Heck, there was a project done in 2019 that modeled likely pandemic scenarios. It was expected that the US would have the most effective response to the virus and would control it easily.

Yet here we are in a perpetual phugoid (4 rounds so far): cases surge so they crank up lockdowns, cases relax, they relax lockdowns and the masks come off, cases surge again.

Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result, is a definition of insanity.
