Here we go again! It looks like the "owner" felt that the heat was off after all these years, and decided to raise a few bucks for himself. It's a shame that this character won't donate the plates to the current owners of these preserved locomotives as a magnanimous gesture, which could atone for the "sins" of the original "collector". Sadly, I suspect that the owner considers $$$MONEY$$$ in his pocket is more important than historical preservation.

There exists the actual possibility that the same guy didn't get BOTH plates............

Phila Chapter NHRS, owner of the 903, will follow up on this.

Builder's plates have gotten out of sight, as per prices.

I have a builder's plate I purchased close to 50 years ago and the locomotive it was for is still around.

Before the internet and Ebay, there was a party, if I recall correctly, name Scott Arden that sent out a flyer with items for sale. I purchased my plate through him. The only other plates I have, came from locomotives that I owned and scrapped.

The christening plates off the big Reading Alcos #5211, #5212, and #5300 had vanished as well so I'm hoping they'll all turn up again one of these days. Ten days after Conrail and "Old Ironsides II" is already long gone... LOL
