Less than 3 weeks from ARM and selling through Ebay? Difficult to understand that logic..... Unless finding the trucks a good home in a presrvation project isn't the point.

BTW, During ARM, Sept. 19 to be exact, the second annual national Talk Like A Pirate Day takes place. Wearing a parrot optional, but reharse the ARRRRRRRRs and Ahoys.

MTM has been trying to sell these trucks for upwards of a year, although it's a bit surprising there isn't a carbody somewhere they couldn't find a home under...

Geez George, I try to keep my ear to the ground about hardware and I had no idea. Where were they offered? In fact, got a call recently from an outfit in Duluth looking for trucks. Hope they can get together, nothing down South to help them out.

Minneapolis metro location, as far as I remember. At whichever facility [Rice Street, St. Paul, I think?] they do streetcar work/restoration.

Wild that Duluth didn't know MTM just down the road was selling 'em!! Hook 'em up!

Gents:

This is a spare pair of trucks that we (Como-Harriet Streetcar Line) got from Japan back in the mid-1990s. We got a total of three pair of trucks: 2 pair of the Baldwins and one pair of Brill 27E1s. We're using the Brills under our Duluth "standard" car No. 265 and the other pair of Baldwins we're saving for restoration of Mesaba Railway No. 10, a Niles 1913 product.

I had been in contact with the guy up in Duluth mentioned in several posts--what he wants is a free pair (more or less) to go under one of two old Duluth carbodies he is trying to cosmetically restore. These trucks are way over his budget and would be wasted up there. Totally not suited for the type of cars he has in any event.

This pair of trucks have actually been up for sale for about five-plus years now and they have been listed two or three times on Railswap and at least three times in ARM's Railway Museum Quarterly. They were probably mentioned at the last five ARM Parts Committee meetings as well. Matter of timing I guess? When you need 'em--they're not available. We came oh, so close at the last ARM meeting in Dallas to finding a home for them under Northern Texas Traction "Crimson Limited" No. 25 on display under the shed in Ft. Worth. (No. 25 is an absolutely beautiful restoration which was led by Lee Lavell.) They would have been a perfect match to that car from what I was told. But the down economy conspired to put the kibosh on that deal.

So as they say, happy bidding, eh?

Gents:

And--speaking of strange things listed on eBay.

Remember the single truck Birney that was listed on eBay in late July? It was moi, acting on behalf of Como-Harriet Streetcar Line, that was the successful bidder on the car. The first time a museum group obtained a streetcar through bidding over eBay? Look for more detail on this deal in an upcoming brief just as soon as Rob clears it for publication.

I'm bringing two of our shop stalwarts with me to ARM in 2 weeks. Their mission? To use a 80's term--to network. They'll be picking the brains of the likes of John Landrum, Brad Martin, and the Tampa folks who have already restored Birneys from scratch. ARM is the best thing that has happened to volunteer groups like ours (and other groups, of course).

Thanks!

So, any takers? I tried looking this auction up on eBay, but couldn't find it, so I assume it's over. Who's the lucky bidder?

I had the Ebay website bookmarked, so went back and looked. The trucks did not sell, because no bidder had reached the $12,000 reserve price.
