"Hard to understand how so many can ignore all the available STRONG evidence that the available vaccines are nearly 100% effective in preventing serious disease but then again there's a full 30 % of Americans who believe Trump won the election. Go figure !!"

Breathlessly sharing. Did you Know the vaccines have graphine oxide in them!?!?!?!?

Which leads to same folks having to do a fact check

https://healthfeedback.org/claimreview/ ... ene-oxide/

Any idea when my keys are going to stick to my vaccination injection site? I'm so looking forward to not having stuff them in my pants pocket.

That is the kind of truths that those twelve user id's dispense.

Have at it.

Your claim was that you saw no evidence of government censorship.

I gave you the evidence.

I took no position on anything else in my response to you.

Do try to keep focused and be less of an equine posterior with interlocutors.

Never mind my final injunction, I know you can't do that, BW.

So the government asking - not forcing - asking a business to remove lies from their website is censorship? Do you get the subtle difference or is it too odious back there? After all it's perfectly ok for a private business to not sell a cake to someone, but a private business not allowing their platform to be used to spread lies is somehow different?

Let's all scream fire in a crowded theater. I do find it ironic that folks are objecting to the government trying to stop something that is killing them. Isn't that what "promote the general welfare" is all about?

As an "equal opportunity basher" when it comes to both wings of The Incumbent Party, I have to ask:

If, say, the Trump Administration (or, let's be fair, Bush 43, McCain, McConnell, whoever) had "asked" Amazon to remove books by a list of certain authors from its listings because they claimed they contain "dangerous dis-information," or asked cable news networks to stop repeatedly reporting that certain drug protocols don't work against COVID-19................. would you be willing to defend such actions?

The reality is that major mega-corporations are constantly under the threat of coercive regulation by our Federal government if it continues operations in this country, and even dissolution at the extreme (see the breakup of "Ma Bell").
To claim that "the government is just asking a private company to remove lies from its website" is about as freakin' disingenuous, in reality, as saying the NTSB only "suggests" industry changes in the wake of major accidents, or that those guys with baseball bats really want to "protect" a shopkeeper from which they get those "protection payments."

Where to draw the line is a philosophical discussion that follows the discussion of what is appropriate use of the power of government.

Let's start with do you think the government should use it's power to save the lives of it's citizens?

Yeah, this thread started with good intentions, as in how the pandemic is going to affect operations on tourist RRs and museums. And I knew it was inevitable that it'd go off into some dangerous places (for both sides of the debate).
Having actually had to study for a potential pandemic in the military (admittedly several years ago), I've always been a firm supporter of the masks and the shots. To me, it has nothing to do with politics, but I knew all along it would become a hot potato in that regard.
In a time when flat earth theory is openly discussed again (seriously, I still can't grasp how that's even possible, but here we are) and people have simply declared their own laws (just look up these 'sovereign citizen' videos on YouTube, but make sure you took your blood pressure meds first), how could we expect any other outcome?
Heck, on the railroad I run on just this past weekend, a guy tried to argue with me that gravity actually doesn't exist. I mean really, how can you even have a discussion with someone with a mind like that?
These people vote, folks, and not only left or right wing, either.
Sadly, the original intent of this thread has been lost for the most part. From what I have gathered, we might be heading for "round two" of this thing, exactly at a time where people are openly declaring it's been beaten when there doesn't seem to be any evidence to support this.
Hey, I hate masks as much as any of you. I got the (J&J) shot and I really want to switch and couple cars without sweating my face off and fogging up my glasses. But the reality is what it is.
Science doesn't care about your feelings, how you voted, or whatever website you looked for to back up what you wanted to be true.

Actually, I am pleased to find the large amount of information that is available on the pandemic, the virus, and the vaccine. It is obvious that there is conflict in this body of information. I study it all and disregard what I conclude to be false. In cases where the validity of a point cannot be established, it at least frames a question that needs an answer. Those answers often arrive as the flow of information continues.

As am I, but sadly it comes with a great deal of disinformation. And it's clear that people are picking and choosing what they want to consider reality, often in the face of any concept of common sense or scientific evidence.

And therein lies the problem overall. Not for you, Ron, but for everyone, overall. So many people are rejecting some pretty clear and obvious points because they just don't like it. The masks, for example, was always a very basic and easy thing to accomplish, yet so many rejected the very nature of covering their gaping maws from a pandemic that is clearly transmitted with bodily fluids.
And why did they do so? Because they selected their own reality and declared everything else to be invalid. Just like the flat-earthers and 'sovereign citizen' types.
This is the reasoning that prompted laws for motorcycle helmets, seatbelts and education requirements for children to a certain age. You can't count on people to do the right thing all the time.

If you're a tourist railway observe and enforce the DOT/FRA mask policy at all times.

As for the broader public it is delicious irony that the 3 leading prime time hosts on the Fox News Channel have been constantly peddling an anti-vaccine message and that has contributed to a lopsided number of their listeners refusing to get the shot.

That has produced a very lopsided new wave of Covid that is striking the unvaccinated. According the CDC hospitalizations in the last 10 days are up 103% and 99.5% of those unvaccinated. Covid fatalities in the same most recent 10 day period are 99.9% represented by unvaccinated victims.

The irony here is that the vast majority of those refusing to get the shot are Republicans and most of them are regular Fox News watchers.

I guess what we're witnessing is the Fox News hosts doing the work of the opposition in reducing the ranks of conservative voters?? Ironic don't you think.

That one is a huge hoot. And as far as I know, no one has pointed out to any of these "witnesses" that keys are generally made of brass, which is non-magnetic, i.e. even if the vaccine had made them magnetic, keys would not be attracted to them.

Just as an experiment, I took my key ring over to the chunk of ceramic magnet that is one of the things holding papers to my refrigerator.

Two of the eleven keys and one bottle opener stuck to the magnet: The two keys to locks on my 1940s-vintage rolltop desk (in this way, I'll concede to being an anomaly).............

.................. and so did the key ring itself.

Did it ever occur to you that some people might have sound medical reasons for not or waiting to get the mRNA treatment. Say having survived a leg clot and a double PE and having a rare chronic lymphoma which cannot be eradicated and for which there is no knowledge of how the mRNA will interact with the cancer cells that remain and will become problematic again, given enough time?

This is why some people get their medical advice from actual doctors, rather than say securities traders with ferroequinomania.

Not that I have anything against securities traders, I know a rather fine oncologist who worked as securities trader before he went back to school, made amends for his STEM deficiencies. went to medical school in order that he would be in a job with more redeeming social value-acquiring enough skill to be alert enough to a predecessor's near fatal error. Securities traders can't in good conscience tell a patient, "it's a good thing you decided to come to the ER yesterday [December 14] for your back spasms-or you'd have been dead by Christmas".

I'm still trying to figure out how the Texas Democrats, who received the approved treatments not only managed to contract the disease but transmitted it.

But of course you can always take the Animal Farm approach: Four legs good, two legs bad.

And for the record, based on what I know, the shot is definitely advisable in your case, based upon your age, girth and inability to become pregnant. But then again, I'm not a doctor who has physically examined you and received a thorough medical history, so listen to me at your own peril.
