I know they were evaluating 46's boiler several years ago. I seem to recall they did an ultrasonic test and perhaps even a hydro but then the project came to a sudden halt and nothing has happened since. Anyone know what caused the stoppage? Did they discover a major problem or run out of funding? Things seemed to be going well for a while.

If i have the time (and money) to travel in Pensylvannia don't worry Superheater you got a volunteer for the task. But for now only my money can pass the border

I knew that two of the 4-4-4 Jubilee's still survived and l figured that the very last one (2929) was the one still up in Canada. I should have dug out my J. David Conrad book to find out. Thanks for setting me straight

Is CPR 2928 preserved (stored indoor) at Exporail

46 is in pretty good shape, at least on the exterior. It may be missing a rod, but I am actually uncertain of that. Here's another instance of a private businessman who wanted to display a steam locomotive outside his factory, and saved this little gem.
I will echo, money brought the rebuild to a sudden halt, but there remains interest in rebuilding and running her.

How far can one of them go on a tank of water? Likewise a load of coal. It doesn't look like much.

Hi All
Yes, I agree with the other posts, the equipment at Steamtown, is in sad shape. some of the equipment has not seen a recent paint job in 40 years.
Here is a shot I took of CPR # 2929 during the Railfan weekend in Vermont. in 1980.
This was just after Don Ball took over the leadership of Steamtown. Pat.

The last care the Jubilee got. Over 40 years ago now! The last time I saw it, it didn't even have a cap on the stack. There's no excuse for that.

The X-10T tankers were used in bi-directional Montreal suburban commuter service. Figure a coal load and fill up at the end of each run. There were quite a few of them in the fleet, too. I've been told that Blount loved running the 47 as a favorite engine.
To repeat what has been posted by Kelly, a complete tear down would take care of any missing paperwork issues. Personally, I think she should be the next one "fast-tracked" into the shops for complete overhaul.

Alternatively, what would the odds be of somehow getting 47 out of Steamtown and into the hands of another group? Not that the people at Steamtown aren't capable, but they have serious resource limitations... The potential for any X10 tank engine seems obvious. Not too large, not too small, and in theory capable of respectable enough speed to meet schedules of some existing operations.

If Amtrak is serious about a line to Scranton, maybe better than you think. I could see everything that is not in the roundhouse or flanking the parking lot getting the heave ho. Either by auction or the torch. The county transit hub is on the other side of the main and the yard is already used occasionally by the DL. Not too hard to see what will happen if Amtrak comes to town.

Yeah, i am not sure, but is a factory at the city of Longueuil not so far of Montreal but i forget the name

For the CNR 47, maybe she is the next after 3713 but Steamtown need to finish 3713 quickly but that not look to be finished in the next year sadly

The CPR 2929 is a rare wheel type 4-4-4 passenger locomotive.

The Canadian Museum of Rail Travel at Cranbrook, BC tried to get her for one of their several train sets. But for some reason the deal fell through.

As far as I know the #2929 has never been touched while she was NPS property at Scranton. If a museum can not care for an artifact, it is a sad thing when they refuse to let it go to a museum that will!

2929 was slated to leave the property way back in the Kip Hagen/CP days, but for whatever reason that never happened. I can’t remember what group wanted her but I was told at the time of the asbestos abatement program that was why she wasn’t on the list. Not saying that red tape didn’t play a part but Steamtown was, in at least a general sense, willing to let her go.

With those Conestoga wagon drivers she’s useless on the grade out of Scranton but I was always a sucker for Canadian streamliners. She’d make a fantastic static display if she was restored.

Not to get too far off-topic, but the Cranbrook museum is deaccessioning the lightweight CP trainset that a Jubilee would have matched so nicely with. Like so many museums, they realized that they have more equipment than they can take care of.

I have no idea what sold or who any buyers might be.
