All we need to do is get a ticket on one that's "self insured".

Is that engine even fired up? I know he says something about bring the hose so we don't catch the grass on fire but at no point in that video did I see any smoke whatsoever. That looks like a boiler off to the right. I'm wondering if wasn't being tested on low pressure from an external source. I'm not excusing the behavior but sometimes acting stupid and posting it for the world to see is that person's way of getting their 10 minutes of fame. I'm not excusing their treatment of this engine but everything about this video including the commentary seems way over the top. If I bought and extensive "toy" and managed to break/derail it my first time using it, the last thing I'd want to do is post the video. These guys might not be as stupid as the video illustrates. Yeah, I'm sure running it off the end of the track was an accident......something that happened when testing/playing with another very well known excursion locomotive incidentally.

What is the operating doing wrong to get the stack to spray so much water / steam?

Johnson bar/cutoff lever pegged in the last notch for full valve travel, pulling the throttle wide open too aggressively and water too high in the boiler causing it to be sucked into the drypipe, through the cylinders, out the exhaust nozzle and up the stack. If it wasn't such a robust design, you could have added a blown cylinder head to his list of abuses.

EDIT - To get a better understanding of what I'm talking about, watch this video of a similar situation from the inside of stationary boiler (from 1:14 to 4:25) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI3tWuSsX7c

1) Moderator's warning... lets not just make comments without knowlage

2) Sadly, your moderator knows this engine and on one occastion prevented it from running on a site he was responsible for...

3) I suggest it has leaks in the steam pipes in the smoke box...

4) this appears to be a good example of bad locomotive managment
